Unfounded.

The NCAA has cleared freshman guard Rodney Purvis to play basketball at North Carolina State University immediately, NC State athletic director Debbie Yow told WRAL Monday.
“I’m really excited about the decision that the NCAA came to today,” said Purvis. “I appreciate the hard work of everybody involved and I’m looking forward to focusing on school and basketball.”
The committee, comprised of campus administrators from across the nation, reviewed an appeal submitted by NC State on Purvis’ behalf to determine his competition status. The committee had previously determined that Purvis could attend classes with athletics aid and practice with the Wolfpack during the upcoming season.
“I’m really happy for Rodney,” said head coach Mark Gottfried. “It’s been a difficult situation and he’s handled the entire matter with class. Now he can move forward. I’d also like to thank the NCAA for its thoughtful consideration on this decision.”
Purvis' playing eligibility was in question as the NCAA conducted a review of Upper Room Christian Academy in Raleigh to verify that the core credits meet the standards of the NCAA Eligibility Center.
The NCAA Eligibility Center High School Review states, “The initial-eligibility certification of a prospective student-athlete cannot be finalized without complete information from all high schools/programs the prospective student-athlete attended.”
According to the NCAA, during an “extended evaluation,” high schools need to inform the eligibility center of courses, grading scales and other related information relating to core classes in order to be approved.
Purvis, who took and passed summer classes at NC State, missed almost a week of class to start the fall semester and was also prevented from joining the basketball team on a preseason exhibition tour in Spain. Head coach Mark Gottfried said that not being able to attend the trip was difficult on the freshman, but the academics are the most important thing and he is confident in the NCAA process.
The 6-foot-2 Purvis is one of three highly-touted freshman recruited to the Wolfpack this season along with forward T.J. Warren and guard Tyler Lewis.

What concerns me is how in the world State is able to get such talent in the first place. Top talent going to State in basketball is like top talent going to UNC in football and we know how that turned out for UNC. I just hope Gottfried can keep his recruiting violations under wraps better than Butch did.- Posted by 4tarheels2

He had a 3.(something) GPA. But otherwise, that was a nice theory you had for a minute there.
Let's see RP's GPA is legit, but anyone who commits to UNC immediately has a suspicious GPA... Point is this; he could have a 4.0 and we wouldn't know how hard he had to work to earn it, so simply reporting a GPA doesn't really tell us much. SAT score SHOULD give us a better indication, but even that is flawed when you consider some people don't perform well on standardized tests. I know what you'll say, "so and so from UNC has a bogus GPA becuase we know they gave them unearned grades". I get it. Again, main point is that you are not likely to convince opposing fans by simply stating what an athlete's GPA is or is not. You may as well be screaming at an open dark sky.
