New D.C. bowl has N.C. State on its radar

How about a trip to Washington for the N.C. State football team?

That’s a possibility, a spokesman for the new EagleBank Bowl confirmed Tuesday morning. The new bowl, which will be played Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at RFK Stadium, will feature Navy against an ACC school.  RFK seats 46,000, bowl spokesman Shaun May said Tuesday.

May said the EagleBank "would love" to have N.C. State, in part because the bowl would be only a five-hour drive from Raleigh and would be accessible for Wolfpack fans. He said the bowl expects Navy to bring a strong crowd.

While the EagleBank might sound like a low-level bowl, the game would have some appeal for the Wolfpack and its fans. Tom O’Brien played football at Navy, which would give the game a good storyline.

NCSU is 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the ACC. State needs to beat Miami on Saturday at noon to be eligible for a bowl. The EagleBank Bowl has ninth choice among ACC schools. The game will be televised on ESPN.

"To put it another way, going to most of these bowl games is like going to the NIT in basketball. How many fans from any of the local universities get excited over going to the NIT? "
- Deacons

umm....personally, i get excited over any game, and ill go to any game, and would love nothing more than another football game. ill take any bowl!

oh--and when we were in the NIT a few years ago and played in reynolds the place was packed. i think there was some excitement for that.

I think it's funny how all the fair weather UNC fans that weren't even aware of football until they had a good start now talk about State fans being fair weather. State fans support there teams no matter what. Also i am sure that the people that created this bowl before the season started new that state might make a late season surge to become bowl eligible. So yeah this bowl was made for us.

Truth-

I don't know.....I guess I just don't think of 7-5,6-6,5-7 schools as great. I don't think we had a great ACC team. You could argue that State has the most momentum coming down the stretch, but made too many mistakes to have a great season. As for my Heels, the season will sting for some time. While no one expected Davis to turn the tide so quickly, we got off to such a strong start and then lost the close games that could have been won, and in the ACC landscape this season, the title was right there for the taking-- but we choked, fumbled, and folded. The Peach Bowl just won't cut it for me!

Good talking with you. I wish you as a fan good luck this Saturday. I still don't like O'Brien's comments and I won't mourn for him if the Canes pull one out of their....hats.

This may be a bold statement, and sound cocky. But it really isn't. I don't mean it to be...

I will be very surprised if we don't beat Miami on Saturday. That's how much faith I have in these guys and the coach. If we lose, we have no one to blame but ourselves (and maybe Miami). No excuses. We're as healthy as we can possibly be right now with one exception... we did lose Clem Johnson. That was a tough loss, but not enough for us to blame losing the game on.

If I'm right, and we win (especially if we win convincingly), it will only get harder to pretend State is not a pretty great team. At some point, people will be forced to realize that the earlier losses were mainly due to the rash of injuries coupled with a lack of quality depth.

Carolina is a great team, too, but they have too many injuries now to be great. So now they are average. State was that way earlier in the season, only now we have most of our players back. So the world is finding out this is a solid football team (now, I mean).
