Ferguson to dress for State, but Lowe won't announce starter at point
By Ryan Craig Jan 16, 2009
Trevor Ferguson will dress for N.C. State’s home men's basketball game with Georgia Tech on Saturday but may not play much, coach Sidney Lowe said Friday.
Lowe said Ferguson will play with a pad on his left (non-shooting) hand, which is affecting his shot.
The third-year coach, however, would not discuss who will start at point guard when State plays Tech Saturday at noon at the RBC Center. True freshman Julius Mays played extensively at the position in the loss to Florida State as Lowe moved away from Farnold Degand and Javi Gonzalez.
"I can't tell you right now. I was going to say 'I don't know,' but I really do know", Lowe joked. "I'm honest about it. I'd rather not say right now - there is a decision that has been made though.
While Lowe said that Gonzalez and Degand need to stay confident in themselves and not over-play when they're on the court despite losing playing time recently to Mays, he admits that playing time will always be earned and not simply assumed.
In listening to Lowe talk about his young floor general, It certainly sounds like Mays' minutes will be hard to steal back.
"I think Julius has done a great job - to be as poised as he is as a freshman," Lowe said. "I talked about this when we first got Julius in here - I talked about his basketball IQ. You can see that he knows how to run that position."

Shut the f up, billygoat. ;)
Just kidding. I'm just frustrated. I don't have the answers, either. If I did, maybe I would be State's AD. I don't think I could do any worse than Lee Fowlup, that's for sure!
I just don't buy into the whole "you can't be as good as Duke or Carolina" mentality. State was the team to beat FIRST. No reason we can't get back to the glory years. What Carolina has over State (besides a great basketball program) is an administration that strives for greatness. They don't put up with mediocrity (and in particular, mediocre coaches) in Chapel Hill for very long. At State, I think all they really care about is selling tickets. Since the State fans buy the tickets, regardless of the product on the field, they're not forced to strive for better. I'm starting to believe we're going to have to boycott games until they decide to do something more than sell tickets.

Selling tickets must not be that big a priority, since there are about 5,000 unsold tickets for every game.

I agree and I still think if everyone with season tickets would call the Wolfpack Club (919) 865-1500 and tell them they want a refund because the product being delivered is not worthy of the price of the ticket it would start to ball rolling by sending a to the powers that this will not be tolerated.

"All this is, is a promise of a return to the same. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. State will "now be on equal footing" when Roy and K retire. Better advice would be to swallow that bitter pill and be thankful for whatever wins you can get in the meantime."
That's just silly.
You could just as easily have said, in the mid-80s, that Duke and Coach K will be on equal footing with Carolina when Dean Smith retires. Fortunately for Duke, Coach K decided not to wait.

Let's be clear, TBK. I didn't say it was good advice, I said it was better advice. (Hardy har har) Frankly, I don't have any good advice. (So shut the f up, right billygoat?) :-)
Anyway, if you disagree with what I said about the author's misunderstandings and what will make the fans happy, just say so.
