N.C. State women's basketball coach Kay Yow entered the hospital last week and remains there, according to N.C. State spokesman Mark Kimmel. Yow took a leave of absence on Jan. 6 and will miss the remainder of the season to address a recurrence of breast cancer.
Kimmel said it was Yow's oncologist, Dr. Mark Graham that recommended she admit herself to the hospital. The athletics department would not release what hospital she entered.
Rex Healthcare in Raleigh had no records of Kay Yow being admitted. Duke University Hospital also had no records when reached.
The 66-year old coach was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. The cancer returned from remission in 2004. Yow sat out her first game this season on Dec. 22 as a result of a low energy level. She missed four games before deciding to sit out the rest of the season.
Stephanie Glance has stepped in as the interim head coach and coached the Wolfpack to overtime losses to top 5 teams in consecutive games against North Carolina and Duke.
