Virginia Tech rallies to beat N.C. State 91-87 in OT
Feb 8, 2009
Blacksburg, Va. — A.D. Vassallo drained four free throws in the final 16.4 seconds of overtime to seal Virginia Tech's 91-87 win over North Carolina State on Sunday.
The Hokies (15-7, 5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied from a late 18-point deficit in the win, which put an end to their six-game losing streak against the Wolfpack (12-9, 2-6). Virginia Tech used strong defense in the final 10 minutes of the second, and rallied to tie the game at 76-all. The Hokies held the Wolfpack to one field goal in the final 9:51, and closed regulation with a 21-10 run.
The Hokies tied the game with 17.9 seconds left on a short jumper by Vassallo over N.C. State's Courtney Fells, sending the game into OT. Vassallo's fouls shots would be the difference in the extra frame.
Vassallo led the Hokies with 24 points. Ben McCauley paced the Wolfpack with 25.

"With the economy the way it is now, Lowe's not going anywhere....why would the school/boosters buy out a contract worth hundreds of thousands of $$ and then pay another large amount of $$ to a new coach in this economy? It would be a PR disaster for the school/AD. So, it's the worst of two evils: have a poor coach and poor team vs. a major PR disaster in a very tough economy. So, let's face it that Lowe's not going anywhere anytime soon, just as Charlie Weis isn't going anywhere anytime soon from ND."
Tennessee just did it in football...They fired Phil Fulmer and still owe him 6 Million...then hired Lane Kiffin who they are paying 2.2 million a year. Fulmer only made 1.8 mill before he was fired. Economy isn't an issue. The wolfpack club is the 5th largest booster organization in college sports. There is plenty of money available if needed. Fire Sidney!

According to Personality,
"NC State is just barley over .500 in both sports..."
Barley ? Maybe if we throw in some hops and yeast, we can brew a nice ale to drink while watching the game. After Sunday, I could sure use one.
This hopefully will be the last time I must make this satement.
I guess I need to address the Wake Deacon fan or any other fan whom wants to talk about NC State football against Carolina this year when NC State beat UNC 41-10.
This hopefully will be the last time I must make this statement.
NC State would have to win Every Single Game in both FOOTBALL and BASKETBALL for the next 30 years straight just to become even with UNC in number of wins/losses head to head in both sports.
30 years.........so how is that for your 41-10?
NC State is just barley over .500 in both sports in wins/losses
Care to talk about wins over UNC anymore?

I,m not the Wake fan who made that comment but the past is not doing anybody any good right now. I agree that bringing up football to make up for short comings is cheesy, but the past is the past ! The past does not and will not win ball games. I hope thats the last time I have to make that statement.

If you read the article in the N&O on Sunday, it seems it is highly unlikely Wall will go to state. He only entertained the idea because his mom is a state fan. If you were the #1 recruit in the country, would you go to state?

And the N&O is SUCH an unbiased source for NC State athletics reporting.
That's like reading Al Jazeera for unbiased reporting on U.S. foreign policy.

You are exactly right. The media screws everyhthing up!

TruthBKnow, the problem with pulling in great talent - and this is a problem for every school - is that it has a tendency to leave after one or two years. Both of the former Wolfpackers that are in the NBA (Powell and Hickson) stayed one year (I may be wrong about Powell). The real challenge is putting together a team with good talent and a winning chemistry that doesn't completely flip its personnel every year. I believe State can do that.
