The search is under way for N.C. State’s next women’s basketball coach, with interim coach Stephanie Glance one candidate in what could be an extensive search.

N.C. State posted the job opening on Feb. 9.

"We’re doing a nationwide search," Wolfpack Athletics Director Lee Fowler said.

Fowler says Glance is a candidate for the position, but N.C. State will wait until the season is over to begin fully screening candidates.

"Until people start losing in the NCAA Tournament, we can’t start interviewing candidates," Fowler said. "We just want to get the best coach we can possibly get."

Fowler praised Glance for her work as interim head coach. Glance took over the program when long-time coach Kay Yow stepped down due to health problems in early January. Yow died Jan. 24 after a long bout with breast cancer.

"It’s a difficult situation for anybody," Fowler said of Glance’s work as interim coach. "She has gone through this process very well."

N.C. State is required to post the opening for 30 days.

Glance said she is definitely interested in the position.

"I’d like to be a candidate for the position. I’ve expressed that," Glance said. "But beyond that, I’m really focused on this year’s team."

Glance said this season has been a difficult one because of Yow’s passing, and so her "concern and focus" has been on the players and program, not what might happen in the future.
