N.C. State opens play in the ACC Women's Tournament today in Greensboro trying to defeat Wake Forest for the third time this season in a 3 p.m. game at the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Wolfpack, seeded eighth, is 13-16 and Wake Forest, seeded ninth, is 18-10. But the Pack has beaten Wake 59-51 in Raleigh and 65-63 in overtime in Winston-Salem.
Fifth-seeded Georgia Tech (21-8) opens the tournament today at 11 a.m. against 12th seeded Clemson 13-16. No. 7 Boston College plays No. 10 Miami at 6 p.m. and No. 6 Virginia plays No. 11 Virginia Tech at 8 p.m.
North Carolina and Duke have dominated this event in recent seasons, but Maryland enters the tournament as the top seed and surprising Florida State is seeded second. Third-seeded Duke plays te Virginia-Virginia Tech winner Friday at 8 p.m. and UNC plays the Georgia Tech-Clemson winner Friday at 11 a.m.
The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
