WBB: Emotional season comes to a close for State after 59-54 loss to Wake in ACC Tourney

A season that won't soon be forgotten on the N.C. State campus has come to a close.

The Wolfpack, which played one of the most emotional seasons in recent history after the loss of it's legendary coach Kay Yow, lost to Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Women's Tournament Thursday afternoon, 59-54.

Nikitta Gartrell led State in scoring with 16 points, while Bonae Holston added 13 points and six rebounds.

N.C. State will now turn full-time to its coaching search, a search that will include, but not be limited to, current interim head coach Stephanie Glance.

Corinne Groves was spectacular for the Demon Deacons, leading Wake Forest in scoring with 18 points on 8-11 shooting.

The Deacs will next face top-seeded Maryland in the quarterfinal round - tip is set for 3pm Friday afternoon.

Remember ladies....you are all still winners! You have shown some of the same grace and class that made Coach Yow so well loved by all (even UNC fan like me) I know the last few months have been hard but I know Coach Yow is smiling down at how well you have done.

I had to do a double take when I saw the backs of the Ladies jerseys. That was a great tribute to Coach Yow and a symbol of unity for the team. They did have a great season, considering all they went through this year. Kay would be proud.

Even though I am a Wake fan it would not have bothered me if State won today. It would have been nice to see State win for Yow's sake and for all the rest of the team. For all they have went through this year and stuck together, i'm sure Kay is smiling from up above. God bless you Kay !

So sad that their tourney hopes ended early. Coach Kay is smiling down on them all, though, and they will get through this with the class and dignity they have shown all season. Good Luck to the Lady Wolfpack and to Coach Glance.

We are all really proud of the Lady Wolfpack. Hold your heads high ladies, you did a great job. We are praying for Stephanie, she deserves to be behind the bench.
