Gonzalez a game-time decision for the Wolfpack

The N.C. State men's basketball squad will be looking to start the season 7-1 on Saturday in an afternoon game against Georgia Southern at Reynolds Coliseum.  They may be doing it without junior point guard Javier Gonzalez, who came away from the Wolfpack's last game with a sore hamstring.

"He didn't practice Tuesday, he didn't practice yesterday," Lowe said Friday at his press conference. "We're just trying to take our time with it let him get some shooting first and we'll see how he feels tomorrow."

Gonzalez has been a statistical machine for the Wolfpack so far this season averaging over 10 points, four rebounds and six assists per contest.  But it was someone else who gave a late boost to N.C. State in the win at Marquette.

"As good as we played in that second half I don't know if we win that game without Farnold, just because of his ability to bring the ball down the floor," Lowe said.  "They were pressing Javy, his hamstring was bothering him, but Farnold bringing the ball up the floor relieved Javy from having to fight."

Degand picked a great game to play his first of the season.  He scored six points on 3-4 shooting, while adding two assists and no turnovers in the 77-73 road win over the Golden Eagles.  Degand had sat out the first six games of the season for academic reasons.  Sidney Lowe said on more than one occasion that he was academically eligible to play the whole time, just not eligible under his standards - until this past weekend.

"I just wanted to get some confirmation on some things with him.  He's certainly been diligent in taking care of his business," Lowe said.  "One time he earned the right to wear the uniform and when he got something else done and he earned the right to play."

Now its a question of if the senior point guard can keep his grades to Lowe's liking.

"With this academic thing you're never really out of the woods, but he's worked his way back.  He's worked hard to put himself into position."

Lowe said Degand is also "close" to graduation.

Yeah, this is such an intriguing story, too. Where oh where are all the comments about Gonzalez being a game-time decision???

And pretty much EVERY NC State article ends up with 10 posts.

Shmuck.

What I want to know is when will Carolina fans stop complaining about State fans commenting on Carolina stories? (And yes, to be fair, also vice versa).

Let him rest for the next 2 games...

Let the freshman play...

Javier is never going to be an all conference player by any stretch of imagination. But, he is important to The Pack, in the normal flow of their game. I hope he isn't out too long.

I'm hoping Javier is not seriously injured. He's a good steady player and is an important part of the Wolfpack team.
