Don't count out the Wolfpack
By Adam Gold Jan 11, 2010
In spite of N.C. State's home loss to Virginia, a loss in which the Wolfpack twice gave away a 10-point lead, ESPN's Hubert Davis still sees good things on the horizon - this year - for this team.
"Don't overlook the Wolfpack", Davis told Adam Gold and Joe Ovies Monday morning on 620 The Buzz. "They need to upgrade their talent, obviously, but they are capable of beating anyone in the league."
It's just too bad for Statethat didn't happen Saturday afternoon at the RBC Center.
Heading into the season, the ACC media tabbed the Pack for the bottom rung of the conference ladder, just slightly behind the Cavaliers. So, Saturday appeared to be the best chance -- at least on paper -- for State to grab a victory. Didn't happen, and now N.C. State will have to regroup for Tuesday night's game at an angry Florida State. The Seminoles are coming off a Sunday loss at Maryland.
As for which teams Hubert has his eyes on, Davis sees Duke as the class of the league thanks, in part, to their back court.
"Jon Scheyer is playing like an All-American and is a potential Player of the Year candidate," he said. When asked which team he saw as a potential challenger to Duke and North Carolina at the top of the league, Davis didn't hesitate, "Georgia Tech. Because of their front court strength, they can match up with anyone in the country."

I'm not counting them out, but I am done with Sidney Lowe's inability to coach. Let's let Monte Towe give it a go for the rest of the season, I mean he does have prior college coaching experience, unlike Lowe.

Yep, exactly right jandja2000!
RE: Don't count out the Wolfpack
I hope the players on this year's team have enough fortitude to prove the negative pansies wrong. No, the older guys on the team aren't as skilled as some of their ACC contemporaries. Sidney Lowe is not as seasoned a college coach as his. I happen to think that both can put together a decent finish this year; hopefully good enough for an NIT birth. For the players...confidence is the main recipe. They're plenty good enough to lead teams for 3 quarters; they've got to finish in the 4th. If every player on this team believes in them self and their teammates; they'll make the NIT tourney. We've got some good young freshman talent. Saying it is one thing; doing it is another.
I think Sidney has improved as a college coach and he still has a long way to go. He MUST work at it; that '83 ring or his pro coaching career means diddly. He has a good crew coming in next season and they will need to get us in the NCAA tourney as freshman......Coach Sidney Lowe must put on his collegiate coach thinking cap to help the cause. I think he can be a good college coach and a great recruiter....it's up to him to do it!!!

I'm still not counting the Pack out. But sheesh, Virginia???
Come on State. It only gets harder from here on out.
It's hard to be patient, but we do have a lot of true freshmen playing a lot of minutes. We're going to have a lot of bad times like this. Hopefully we'll have some good ones, too, until the troops arrive next year.

Adam Gold said this morning on the radio to stop using the "young team", "true freshman", etc. excuse. This is a team with ALOT of experience.

I don't care if Adam Gold said the world was flat. You're both wrong.

Our FT % in the Sid era: .728, .719, .717, and this year a whopping .648.
It's going progressively downhill. Such an easy thing to coach!
