State coach Lowe misses practice day, should be OK for game
By Ryan Craig Mar 11, 2010
N.C. State was down a man in practice Wednesday afternoon in Greensboro Coliseum, but it wasn’t one of the team’s players.
Head coach Sidney Lowe missed the Pack’s session after coming down with what the school is classifying as something between a cold and the flu.
“My understanding is [it’s] a virus, not feeling good,” said assistant coach Monte Towe, who took over for Lowe in leading the team’s practice Wednesday. “He just need to rest today and he’ll be out there tomorrow. We have a practice tomorrow morning and I’m confident he’ll be there.”
For a team less than a day away from the biggest, and possibly last, game of its season, not having Lowe on the court made for an abnormal practice session.
“It was pretty strange,” Wolfpack forward Tracy Smith admitted. “He’s not feeling too good right now, so we just tried to go out and put on a good performance for him.
“It was a little weird,” State guard Farnold Degand reiterated, but when we’re out there he’s with us all the time - we’ve got him in our minds. We’re working just as hard as if he was there.”
Not having the team’s head coach for practice day was inconvenient, but not having him for Thursday’s first-round game against Clemson would be a much bigger issue.
Luckily for State fans, it appears Lowe will be fine in time to man the sidelines against the Tigers.
“He’ll be there [Thursday],” said Towe. “We’re all counting on having him as our head coach. He means a lot to this basketball team - probably more than any other individual. He’s resting today and I’m sure he’ll be out there tomorrow.”

sid has the flu, so what, he's not scheduled to play is he? ...and don't even try the "he coaches" thing. I'm sure the the assistant coach (Mighty Toe)can do just as good/bad of a job. it's the Towe and Lowe combo~! Go Pack~!

i agree with that Ligg.....just like it doesnt make a diff if the Wear Bro doesnt play or the goblin Zeller or L Mcd because they all suck as well!!

Pretty cool -- the first two posts here are about TBK! I'm feeling the love today!
But seriously, are these two articles not pertinent? I mean, Sid has the flu and missed the pre-tournament practices. The other is about State's matchup with Clemson. Not sure I'm feeling the bias!
If Roy was out with the Flu, we'd have one article about that, another article about an organization started by the UNC Alumni foundation to find a cure for the flu, another about how the flu is being cured in western Europe and how the vaccine is en route to Greensboro as we speak, it would be neverending!
