Another area team is off Twitter.
The North Carolina State men's basketball team has decided to put off tweeting for the time being, the second team in the last week to stop using the social networking website.
The North Carolina football program was banned from using Twitter by head coach Butch Davis after two players posted tweets the school deemed "inappropriate."
Wednesday, Wolfpack forward Tracy Smith, while speaking at the ACC's Operation Basketball event in Charlotte, told reporters that State has decided as a team to stop using Twitter.
A spokesman with the school informed WRAL that there has been no new department policy enacted, but that the coaches do have a right to ask their players to stop tweeting.
Smith said that once the team was asked to stop by head coach Sidney Lowe there were no objections.

Banning Twitter (or any other medium of communication) comes a bit too close to censorship for my taste. Anyone telling me not to communicate in a particular manner would be told to stuff that rule where the sun doesn't shine ...

No one is telling you that you can't. Playing basketball or football or whatever for a college team is not a right and you have the option to play or tweet. You can choose which ever means more to you.

I think when they are paying for you to play the sport and your education, they have the right to tell you not to twitter. No censorship issues.

Did they tell them not to speak to reporters, too?

They don't need that distraction. There's enough stuff to deal with anyway. Good move Sid.
