Irving excited for his opportunity to be a Denver Bronco

Posted May 13, 2011

We usually celebrate Christmas in December, but for former NC State linebacker Nate Irving Christmas came around in April.

"I felt like a kid on Christmas," Irving said when he joined The Insiderson 620 The Buzz about what his feelings when he saw his name pop up on ESPN.  "I really can't even find words to describe it," said Irving. Irving was selected early in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.

Irving played at NCSU from 2006-2010.  He was selected on the Sports Illustrated and Scout.com First Team All-American list for 2010.  Irving missed the entire 2009 season with injuries sustained from a horrific car crash.

Irving continues to keep in touch with a number of his former teammates, including former NCSU QB Russell Wilson. Irving said he was not shocked at all by Wilson wanting a release from NC State because he simply said "He (Russell) loves football."

As far as the coming years Irving feels as if the Wolfpack faithful will be in great hands under the direction of junior Mike Glennon.  On what Glennon brings to the field, "You won't have the run around aspect, but you will have a very good passer," says Irving.

This guy is a champion. The Broncos will be as happy with Nate as Arizona is with Adrian Wilson.

    Congratulations, Nate.

All Wolfpack fans (and, as you can see above, fans of some other schools as well) are very proud of you and happy for you and your family. If anybody ever earned a chance like this, you have with your tenacity and positive attitude. Congratulations again. Go get 'em!

Nate vs Rivers twice a year, man guess I have to go for Rivers but Nate is a beast and will do well, too bad can't pull for both being as they are in the same division, but I shall be a Nate Irving fan and him only.

Very happy for Nate and the opportunity he is getting at the next level. He is a bit undersized for NFL standards but that certainly isn't going to stop him one bit. Hope he has a long and successful career at the next level.

Totally happy for Irving. Great attitude. Strong as a bull, and loads of talent. Glad he is working for a good organization with Elway.

He's truly a Predator and I too can't wait to see him body slam the first back that doesn't want to go down.

Can't wait to see his patented body slam on some AFC West running backs next year!
