Seahawks: Lynch accusations 'bogus'

Renton, WA ( - The Seattle Seahawks are "comfortable" that recent allegations made against star running back Marshawn Lynch are "bogus" while police said Tuesday their investigation is ongoing.

The Bellevue Police Department said Monday that it was investigating Lynch over an allegation of assault and property damage after he was named by an unidentified woman in connection to an incident that occurred at an apartment complex early Sunday morning.

The Seahawks issued a statement to media outlets on Tuesday dismissing the allegations as untrue.

"While we maintain the utmost respect for the investigative process, after speaking with Marshawn, we are comfortable the accusations are bogus," the Seahawks said.

A police spokesman responded by saying the department is working on the case.

"This case remains a high priority for our department, and we are committed to bringing this investigation to a quick resolution," Public Information Officer Seth Tyler said in an email.

"We have a full-time detective working this case, and that detective has made significant progress in investigating these allegations fully and thoroughly."

Lynch, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons, has not been arrested.

Lynch has been involved in off-field issues during his seven-year career. The workhorse back was suspended three games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in 2009, while a member of the Buffalo Bills, after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon in the trunk of a car.

He had his driver's license revoked following a 2008 hit-and-run accident in Buffalo. Four years later, he was cited for reckless driving in his hometown of Oakland, California.

Lynch, 28, recently received a $1 million raise on his original $5 million salary for the upcoming season after staging a weeklong holdout to open training camp.
