Seahawks lock up WR Baldwin

Renton, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Less than four months after playing a key role in the Seattle Seahawks' first-ever Super Bowl title, Doug Baldwin was rewarded for his contributions.

The Seahawks signed the valued wide receiver to a new three-year contract on Thursday, with NFL.com reporting the deal to worth a total of $13 million.

Seattle had previously offered Baldwin, a restricted free agent who led the club with 51 receptions this past season, a one-year tender for $2.187 million, but he had yet to sign in hopes of working out a longer-term agreement.

Signed by the Seahawks as a college free agent in 2011, Baldwin has emerged into one of the team's most consistent pass-catchers despite his undrafted status. The Stanford product recorded 51 receptions for 788 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie and posted nearly identical numbers in his third NFL campaign, hauling in 50 passes for 778 yards and five scores in 2013.

Baldwin added 13 receptions for 202 yards during Seattle's recent postseason run, which included a six-catch, 106-yard effort in the 2013 NFC Championship Game and a touchdown grab in the Seahawks' rout of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XL.

"Doug has been a tremendous player," said Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. "When you go back and look at the last few years, and look at the significant plays that have happened, he's been a part in a lot of big stuff. He continues to always be at the front of making everything happen."

This past year, Baldwin also became the first undrafted rookie to lead his team in both catches and receiving yards in a season since Bill Groman of the AFL's Houston Oilers in 1960.
