Rodgers probable, Matthews out for Packers

Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - One day after head coach Mike McCarthy announced that Aaron Rodgers would return for this weekend's high-stakes matchup with the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers officially listed their franchise quarterback as probable on Friday's final injury report.

Rodgers has been sidelined with a fractured left collarbone he sustained in Green Bay's first meeting with the Bears this season, a 27-20 Chicago win at Lambeau Field on Nov. 4. The 2011 NFL MVP was back running the first-team offense during Thursday's practice, however, with McCarthy declaring him ready to go following the session.

The Packers could possibly have another key offensive player back for Sunday's clash, which will decide this year's NFC North champion. The team is expected to decide whether to activate wide receiver Randall Cobb from injured reserve- designated to return after an evaluation scheduled for Saturday.

Cobb has not played since fracturing his right fibula against Baltimore on Oct. 13, but has been practicing the past two weeks.

At the time of his injury, Cobb was leading Green Bay with 29 catches that totaled 378 yards through the season's first five games.

The Packers will not have their top pass rusher available against the Bears, however, with McCarthy announcing Friday that outside linebacker Clay Matthews underwent surgery on his troublesome right thumb Friday and is out indefinitely.

Matthews, who leads the Packers with 7 1/2 sacks, missed four games after fracturing the same thumb in early October.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection is the only Green Bay player not termed probable on Friday's injury report.

Running back Eddie Lacy, who sat out both Wednesday and Thursday's practices to rest an ankle sprain, was back on the field Friday. The rookie amassed a career-best 150 rushing yards with a touchdown on 22 carries in last month's loss to the Bears.

Green Bay (7-7-1) trails Chicago by a half-game for first place in the NFC North entering Sunday's showdown at Soldier Field, and would earn the conference's No. 4 seed with a victory.
