Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are expected to ink quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year deal.
Insight: Jackson was cut by Buffalo on Monday. He'll compete with Brady Quinn for the chance to back up Russell Wilson.

Insight: Jackson hasn't taken an NFL snap since 2011. With Jackson out of the picture, Kevin Kolb and rookie E.J. Manuel will battle for the starting job in Buffalo.

2/16/2013 5:35:00 PM
Description: QB Tarvaris Jackson has agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with Buffalo. SOURCE: buffalobills.com
Insight: Bills coach Doug Marrone says the starting job is up for grabs. If Jackson has a good training camp, he could conceivably be the team's Week 1 starter at quarterback. His main competition will be last year's starter Ryan Fitzpatrick (24 TD, 16 INT, 83.3 QB rating).

8/27/2012 8:39:00 PM
Description: Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been traded to the Bills. The Seahawks will pick up a late-round draft pick as compensation.
Insight: Jackson will open the 2012 campaign as Ryan Fitzpatrick's backup. We're not expecting him to see the field much so don't count on Jackson to be a factor in fantasy this season.

8/19/2012 7:37:00 PM
Description: John Clayon of ESPN says the Seahawks are planning on either releasing quarterback Tarvaris Jackson or trading him before the start of the season.
Insight: After signing Matt Flynn to a big contract this offseason, we assumed this would eventually be Jackson's fate. He has yet to produce anything remotely fantasy relevant during his three years in the league, so even if Jackson somehow miraculously becomes a starting quarterback somewhere in 2012, he can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

8/14/2012 6:44:00 PM
Description: CBSSports.com's NFL Insider Jason La Canfora speculates that the Seahawks will shop quarterback Tarvaris Jackson barring an injury to one of the other QBs on the roster.
Insight: Jackson entered training camp as the starter and has been working with the first-team offense, but he didn't play in the team's first preseason game because the Seahawks' coaching staff already knows what he brings to the table. Seattle will likely go with free agent signee Matt Flynn and rookie Russell Wilson at quarterback this season.

6/24/2012 9:46:00 PM
Description: Tarvaris Jackson will enter Seahawks training camp as the team's starting quarterback.
Insight: This is a surprise move, especially considering all the money the team gave to Matt Flynn when they signed him this offseason. Jackson finished the 2011 season with a career-high 14 TDs but also a career-high 13 interceptions in 15 games.

6/11/2012 12:51:00 PM
Description: Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said, "the player some league observers believe could be released at the end of training camp remains a nose ahead of the rest by virtue of his experience." He was talking about Tarvaris Jackson.
Insight: We still believe that Matt Flynn is the Seattle opening day starter and this is just Carroll playing mind games to push his new starter.

10/28/2011 10:08:00 PM
Description: Liz Mathews of 710 ESPN Seattle is confident that Tarvaris Jackson (pectoral, questionable) will start Sunday's game against Cincinnati. Source: Liz Mathews via Twitter
Insight: Even if Jackson does play, the fantasy prospects as a whole aren't looking too promising against the Bengal defense. Jackson could help Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin, with Rice being a WR3 in deeper leagues.

9/5/2011 2:12:00 PM
Description: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reiterated to the Tacoma News Tribune that Tarvaris Jackson will start at quarterback in Week 1. Source: Tacoma Star Tribune
Insight: Well, the 49'er defense gets our stream of the week defense. If they are on the wire, they are a great play this week. The 'Hawks offense projects as one of the worse if Jackson can't get the ball out. Downgrade Sydney Rice in week 1, as well.

Description: Nothing beats a rambling preamble. By the time the tumbleweed stopped tumbling, Sam Elliot wrapped up his narration, and the Dude finished paying for his milk with a check for 69 cents, you knew you were about to witness greatness. Circumnavigating the fantasy football world, you come across a lot of bizarre characters. (When did douche become so ubiquitous and multi-faceted? That's not a name they'd self-apply where I come from.) Of course, if there's one thing uniting this motley band of fellow travelers, it's this: The Sleeper List. There's only one problem. The vast majority of the players mentioned aren't real sleepers. Can Jimmy Graham be a sleeper if he's being drafted within a round of Vernon Davis and ahead of Owen Daniels? Sleepers are different, a special breed. They are Peyton Hillis, Brandon Lloyd, Steve Johnson. If a guy's being drafted anywhere in the first 10 rounds, he isn't a sleeper. He's just somebody you'd rather have on your team than Joseph Addai. After all, this isn't Nam. It's fantasy football. There are rules. Any entry that violates this rule really requires only one response: Mark it zero. A real sleeper is somebody most people will look at George Bluth-style and think, 'Him?' Someone like Tarvaris Jackson. Err . . . huh? The guy who's been the biggest punch line of the free agent period? Fantasy value? It's down there somewhere. Let me take another look. Another Look Jackson's overall numbers are inauspicious but easy to discount. Jackson didn't play with the same Vikings that made Brett Favre the story of the 2009 season. During his underwhelming sophomore campaign, Jackson's best receiver was Bobby Wade. His #2? Robert Ferguson. You can envision Jackson going to the sideline, asking Brad Childress for a little help, and being told the situation wasn't that bad. You can pardon Jackson for thinking, 'Not that bad? The goddamn plane has crashed into the mountain!' Despite the sorry state of affairs, the Vikings were 8-4 with Tarvaris under center and 0-4 otherwise. During his third season, Jackson experienced a mild breakout in somewhat limited reps. He threw 9 TDs against only 2 INTs and notched an impressive 7.7 adjusted yards per attempt. Since aypa is a very helpful stat in projecting the potential upside of a starting QB, it's worth wondering what historical comparisons might exist for Jackson in his 3rd season. If we restrict our query to non-1st round QBs, we find 13 guys have met that level in the last 30 years (minimum 100 attempts). Interesting names pepper the list: Tony Romo, Jeff Garcia, Kurt Warner, Trent Green, Marc Bulger, Mark Rypien, Boomer Esiason. Even a much-maligned guy like Elvis Grbac went on to have a 4000-yard, 28 TD season. Of course, very few of those players probably had a WR as talented as Bernard Berrian when they accomplished the feat. The biggest knock against Jackson '" aside from those bizarre leaping-into-the-line-of-scrimmage interceptions '" was an inability to make Sidney Rice a superstar. In 2008 Rice caught a measly 15 passes for 141 yards. Favre rode into town like Harrison Ford rescuing his kid from aliens '" not a spoiler, a Crystal Skull reference '" and Rice exploded for a line of 83 and 1312. That Rice was an unpolished, oft-injured, rarely-played second year player in 2008 probably had nothing to do with it. It's a good thing the Bills got a new QB in 2010 after the failed Ryan Fitzpatrick experiment of 2009, or Steve Johnson never would have broken out. I have a sneaking suspicion Tarvaris Jackson might thwart his team's attempt to land Andrew Luck in next year's draft. As faithful Razzball readers, you are in a unique position to confirm or disconfirm that suspicion. The Case for Tarvaris Jackson: 1. Supporting Cast With Sidney Rice, Mike Williams, Golden Tate, and Zach Miller, the Seahawks have surrounded Jackson with a ton of talent. Rice belongs to a very elite group with a 1300-yard receiving season before turning 24. Miller survived JaMarcus Russell and emerged as a star. Even Ben Obomanu is better than anybody Jackson played with in 2007. 2. Schedule Fantasy pundits have widely varying takes on the role you should give opponent strength in your preseason prognostications. I tend to think regression renders it mostly irrelevant, but that doesn't mean you can't leverage small advantages. If a player goes into the season with one of the easiest projected schedules, it's unlikely he ends up with one of the hardest. And vice versa. SOURCE: RAZZ BALL

Description: The Vikings are not expected to tender impending free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson. SOURCE: ST. PAUL PIONEER-PRESS
Insight: The Vikings are starting from scratch at the quarterback position with Jackson leaving and Brett Favre, hopefully, staying retired. Jackson is no better than an NFL backup. He has shown some talent in the past, but he is too inconsistent.

1/3/2011 2:59:00 PM
Description: A free agent this offseason, QB Tarvaris Jackson says he "probably" won't be back with the Vikings. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: His chances in Minnesota would have been better if Brad Childress remained the head coach. Jackson had shown flashes here and there, but continued to show poor decision making after throwing four interceptions to just three touchdowns in limited action this year. With Jackson likely gone and Brett Favre "retired," we expect the Vikings to make the quarterback position a top priority this offseason.

Description: 1500 ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero reports Jackson (turf toe) said he will not have surgery on his injured toe.
Insight: Jackson is slated to become a free agent, and could land a backup job somewhere this offseason. (RapidDraft.com)

12/16/2010 1:29:00 PM
Description: The Minnesota Vikings have officially placed QB Tarvaris Jackson on season-ending I.R.
Insight: Jackson suffered turf toe in his very first start of the year, putting an abrupt end to a very strange season. Joe Webb is his likely replacement for Monday night if Brett Favre still isn't ready to go.

12/16/2010 12:05:00 PM
Description: Pro Football Talk.com reports Jackson (turf toe) is expected to be placed on injured reserve.
Insight: Turf toe can be a multiple week injury, so this is not too surprising. Jackson is a pending free agent and probably has taken his last snap as a Viking. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: 1500 ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero reports Jackson (turf toe) has turf toe, placing his status for next Monday against Chicago in doubt.
Insight: The uncertainty of the Vikings' QB situation makes all of the team's notable receivers un-startable this week. (RapidDraft.com)

12/14/2010 6:37:00 PM
Description: It was revealed earlier today that Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is suffering from turf toe and likely won't be ready for Week 15 vs. Chicago. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: The Vikings are in dire straits right now, not knowing what to expect from Brett Favre going forward. Joe Webb is third in line, and if Favre still isn't ready to go, Webb gets the call. We don't know much about Webb other than the fact he's young and inexperienced.

12/14/2010 12:01:00 AM
Description: Jackson went 15-for-30 for 118 yards with an interception along with four carries for eight yards against the Giants on Monday night.
Insight: Jackson suffered a toe injury in the game, but was able to return. He looks likely to be the Vikings' starting QB for the rest of the season. (RapidDraft.com)

12/6/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: Jackson went 15-for-22 for 187 yards and two touchdowns and three interceptions with two carries for 22 yards against the Bills on Sunday.
Insight: Jackson stepped in for Brett Favre (right shoulder) and looked capable for the most part. If he has to start next week, things will surely be tougher against the Giants. (RapidDraft.com)
