NFL Game Summary - Houston at San Francisco

(Sunday, October 6th)

Final Score: San Francisco 34, Houston 3

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston, we have a problem.

Matt Schaub became the first quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger to throw a pick-six in four straight games, as the Texans suffered a 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

Schaub became the topic of debate in Houston following last week's overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. With 2:40 left in regulation, Richard Sherman picked off Schaub and raced 58 yards the other way to tie the game at 20.

On Sunday, Schaub completed just 19-of-35 passes for 173 yards and three interceptions. Schaub has thrown six picks during Houston's three-game losing streak.

"He's been good for this organization," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's helped this organization become a winner so I have to evaluate what's going on, what we're doing, how we're doing it. That's my responsibility. I believe in him as a person. I believe in him as a player. He's done it before and I've seen guys work through this stuff and I got to do everything I can to help him through it."

T.J. Yates took over in the fourth quarter and connected on 3-of-5 passes for 15 yards for the Texans (2-3).

San Francisco cornerback Tramaine Brock had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Defensive tackle Tony Jerod-Eddie had the other interception.

Colin Kaepernick completed 6-of-15 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown for the 49ers (3-2), who have won two in a row.

"We needed to get back to playing our style of football," Kaepernick said, "hard-nosed football."

Frank Gore carried the ball 17 times for 81 yards and a score, while Vernon Davis caught three passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.

San Francisco got things going with Brock's pick-six. On the third play of the game, Brock picked off Schaub and ran 18 yards untouched into the end zone.

The Texans moved the ball to the San Francisco 16-yard line on the ensuing possession. However, the drive stalled on back-to-back offensive penalties. Randy Bullock then missed a 45-yard field goal.

The home team found the end zone 12 plays later. Davis and Anquan Boldin combined to convert a trio of third downs on the drive, which Gore capped with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

Brock's second interception of the night came with about seven minutes left in the second quarter. This time around, Brock returned the ball 13 yards to the Houston 32-yard line. Kaepernick scrambled for 14 yards and Gore picked up 16 yards on the ground prior to Anthony Dixon's 2-yard rushing TD.

Houston finally got on the board early in the third quarter. DeAndre Hopkins' 18-yard catch led to Bullock's 41-yard field goal.

Phil Dawson responded with a 38-yard field goal with 5:15 left. Gore recorded a 26-yard run prior to the field goal.

The Texans were driving late in the third period when Schaub was picked off by Jerod-Eddie. On the second play of the fourth quarter, Davis caught a 64-yard TD pass from Kaepernick to make it 31-3.

Yates took over under center on the ensuing Houston possession. Ben Tate fumbled to account for Houston's fourth and final turnover of the game.

Dawson made a 24-yard field goal to make it a 34-3 game.
