NFL Game Summary - Houston at Washington

Final Score: Houston 30, Washington 27 (OT)

Landover, MD (Sports Network) - Neil Rackers' 35-yard field goal with 3:24 left in overtime completed a Houston comeback and gave the Texans a 30-27 win over the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field.

Each team had a possession in the extra session, with Houston opting to punt from the Washington 39 on the opening touch and Graham Gano missing a 52-yard field goal moments after a make of the attempt was nullified by a Houston timeout prior to the snap.

Starting with the ball at its own 42 after the missed field goal, Houston advanced the chains on a six-yard catch by Jacoby Jones on 3rd-and-4. The next play saw Matt Schaub throw the ball down field and Joel Dreessen come up with a leaping 28-yard catch to get the ball to the Washington 18.

The next two plays were Arian Foster runs, and on third down Rackers booted the ball through for the win.

Schaub finished the game 38-for-52 with a franchise-record 497 yards, along with three touchdowns and an interception for the Texans (2-0), who have won a franchise-best six straight games dating back to last season.

Andre Johnson had a huge game as he caught 12 passes for 158 yards and the game-tying score late in the fourth quarter. He briefly left the game in the third with a right ankle injury, but returned for the game-tying drive.

"My thought coming into the week was a lot of people were going to be questioning us and asking if we were for real," Johnson said. "I think we showed them a little something today."

Kevin Walter had 11 catches for 144 yards and a score while Arian Foster, the hero of last week's win against Indianapolis, had 69 yards rushing and 69 receiving.

"We had guys all over the field making plays," Schaub said. "Our defense played tremendously well down the stretch. Our offensive line was protecting against a lot of different looks and a lot of different pressures."

Donovan McNabb went 28-for-38 with 426 yards and a touchdown for the Redskins (1-1), who opened the season last Sunday with a win against Dallas. Clinton Portis scored twice on the ground and Santana Moss finished the game with 10 receptions for 89 yards.

This marked only the fifth time in NFL history that a game featured two 400- yard passers. Dan Marino (473) and Drew Bledsoe (421) were the last duo to accomplish the feat (September 4, 1994).

"These types of games are tough to lose," said Washington head coach Mike Shanahan. "We had our opportunities to put the game away, but we didn't get it done. We have to go back and look at the things we did poorly and come back harder next week."

Trailing by 13 to start the second half, the Texans began with the ball and over 11 plays moved 56 yards and got its deficit to 10 points when Rackers booted a 47-yard field goal to make it a 20-10 game.

The Redskins, though, answered on their ensuing touch as the team marched 92 yards in nine plays with McNabb and Chris Cooley connecting on a 22-yard touchdown for a 27-10 lead with under four minutes to play in the third.

Houston came right back down the field, and on the final play of the quarter made it a 10-point game again as Schaub hit Walter in the end zone from six yards out. The play before the score saw a 50-yard catch-and-run from Foster to set up a 1st-and-goal.

Washington was held to a three-and-out on its next touch and Houston took over at its own 34. On the first play, Schaub found Walter over the middle for 35 yards. Houston was able to move just five more yards, but Rackers' 43-yard field goal made it a one-score game with just over 11 minutes to play.

The Redskins drove into scoring position as the team went 59 yards and Gano lined up for a 29-yard field goal, but it was blocked by Bernard Pollard with 6 1/2 minutes to play.

The teams then exchanged punts and Houston started the game-tying drive at the 19. Facing a 3rd-and-10, Schaub found Johnson for 29 yards to get the ball near midfield. Another first down got the ball to the Washington 34, but three straight incompletions saw Houston facing a 4th-and-10. Schuab, though, calmly stepped up and heaved a pass into the end zone with Johnson coming down with the leaping catch over the defender to tie the game with 2:03 left in regulation.

Washington stalled on its following drive and Houston was unable to move as the game went to overtime.

Washington started the game with the ball and covered 57 yards over nine plays. The drive went dry at the Houston 23 and Gano booted a 41-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 9:37 left in the first.

On Houston's ensuing drive, Carlos Rogers picked off Schaub to give Washington the ball at the Texans 42. On the first play, McNabb and Cooley got together on a 35-yard play to set up a 1st-and-goal at the seven-yard line. Washington, though, moved back two yards and a 27-yard field goal from Gano made it a 6-0 game with under six minutes to play in the first.

In a drive that spanned the first and second quarters, Houston went ahead on the first play of the second as Schaub found Jones at the left side of the end zone from five yards out.

The Redskins answered quickly as McNabb hit Joey Galloway for 62 yards on the first play of the next drive and, four plays later, Portis banged into the end zone from a yards out for a 13-7 advantage with 12:29 left in the second.

Later in the second, Houston got into scoring position, but Rackers' 47-yard field goal attempt went wide right and Washington took over with the ball at its own 37 with 2:19 left in the half.

McNabb again used the big play to get into scoring position as a 62-yard catch-and-run from Fred Davis made it a 1st-and-goal at the one-yard line. Two plays later Portis again took the ball in from a yard out to give the Redskins a 20-7 lead at the break.

Game Notes

Johnson's 29-yard catch on the tying drive in the fourth was his 600th career reception. He now has 14 games with at least 10 catches and 100 receiving yards in his career, tying Marvin Harrison for the second-most such games in NFL history. Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice holds the record with 15 games with at least 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards...Washington had won the previous two meetings with Houston. The last time these teams met was on September 24, 2006, a 31-15 Redskins victory...Washington plays its first road game of the season next Sunday in St. Louis...The Texans return home for a game against Dallas next Sunday...Cooley finished the game with three catches for 64 yards along with the score...Washington defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was inactive for the game due to a sprained ankle suffered in practice...The win was Houston's first overtime victory in franchise history. Houston's record in overtime now stands at 1-6.
