Todd leads by 2 at Byron Nelson

Irving, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Brendon Todd fired a 6-under 64 on Friday and moved two strokes clear of the field after 36 holes of the Byron Nelson Championship.

Todd finished two rounds at 8-under-par 132. He is winless on the PGA Tour, but earned the second of his two Web.com Tour wins last year.

Paul Casey shot 7-under 63, including an 8-under 27 on the back nine, to soar into a share of second place. He was joined at minus-6 by last week's winner Martin Kaymer (67), Tim Herron (66), Charles Howell III (66), Mike Weir (66), Graham DeLaet (66), Marc Leishman (68) and Morgan Hoffmann (66).

Boo Weekley, 2011 runner-up Ryan Palmer and Tyrone Van Aswegen all carded 2- under 68s in round two at TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas. They were joined in 10th place by Retief Goosen (65) and Gary Woodland (67).

Todd started his round with six pars in a row. He finally got on the board with a 3-foot birdie putt on the par-5 seventh. Todd made it two in a row as he poured in a 24-footer for birdie on the eighth.

The 28-year-old converted back-to-back birdie chances at 10 and 11, both from inside 10 feet, to move to 6-under par. Todd's tee shot on the par-4 13th stopped 12 feet from the hole, and he drained that birdie effort.

Todd gave that shot back as he missed a 15-footer for par at the 15th. He closed his round in style with a 6-foot birdie putt on No. 17. Todd followed with a 9-footer for birdie at 18 to push his lead to two after 36 holes.

"It was a lot of fun today. The conditions were pretty favorable and I was able to keep the momentum going with my short game, and hit some quality shots coming in," Todd said. "I was thinking about that on the back nine, that I had a lot of 1-putts. I'm striking it solid. It wasn't great on the front nine, I got away with it and then I really got going on the back nine, and hit some quality shots and gave myself some shorter putts."

Casey played the front nine in 1-over par with three bogeys and a 9-foot eagle putt on the par-5 seventh. Around the turn, he caught fire though.

The three-time European Ryder Cup team member birdied the 10th and followed with a birdie from off the green at the 11th. He ran off three straight birdies from the 13th, all from inside 13 feet, to move to 4-under for his round, and minus-3 overall.

Casey poured in a 32-footer for eagle on the par-5 16th. He closed with another short birdie try at 18 to shoot 27 on the back nine.

"I had no concept of what I was doing. The seal was broken when I got to 10. It just spiraled from there," Casey admitted. "I like to think I would be pretty good at shooting low rounds of golf through the past, but certainly nothing like that."

Kaymer had four birdies and a bogey in his round of 67. DeLaet and Hoffmann both had bogey-free rounds with two birdies on both nines. Weir had a birdie and a bogey on the back nine, which was his opening nine, then had four birdies on his second nine for his 66.

Herron mixed six birdies and two bogeys in his round, while Leishman had two birdies and a bogey on both nines. Howell was bogey-free with a birdie on the 10th, then three more on the front side.

NOTES: This is the first time Todd has had an overnight lead on the PGA Tour ... Only 11 of 25 second-round leaders have won on the PGA Tour this year ... Casey's 27 tied the all-time back nine record on tour, and shattered the TPC Four Seasons back nine record of 29 ... Stephen Ames was disqualified after the second round for signing an incorrect scorecard ... The cut line fell at 1-over-par 141 with 84 players moving on to the weekend, and due to that there will be a second cut to the low 70 and ties after round three ... Among those who missed the cut were David Duval, Ryan Moore, Brandt Snedeker, Trevor Immelman and last year's winner Sang-Moon Bae.
