Description: Former Giants DE Osi Umenyiora has officially signed with the Atlanta Falcons on a two-year, $8.5 million contract.
Insight: The Falcons had a void on the defensive line after releasing John Abraham earlier this offseason. Abraham had 36 tackles, 10 sacks and six forced fumbles for the Falcons last season. After picking up 12 sacks as a full-time starter in 2010-11, Umenyiora had just 15 over 25 games as a situational pass rusher the last two seasons. He has 75.5 sacks and 32 forced fumbles in his career.

Description: According to a report on ProFootballTalk.com, a source with knowledge of the situation said that free agent DE Osi Umenyiora is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday or Monday.

Description: Dan Graziano of ESPN doesn't expect the Giants to bring back defensive end Osi Umenyiora next season.
Insight: With Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck ahead of him on the depth chart, there's really no room for Umenyiora in East Rutherford anymore. The 31-year-old has 15 sacks in his last 25 games and probably won't have any difficulty finding a new team.

Insight: Other reports are stating the same thing about his return in week 4. Coach Coughlin is hoping Osi can get in some practice time this week.

Description: Giants DE Osi Umenyiora will return to practice with the Giants Monday. SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS
Insight: After all the crap that went on in negotiations, Osi decided to end talks and just play out the season for his $3.25 million base salary and likely become a free agent at the end of the year. Expect him to play like a beast this year, in hopes of landing a HUGE free agent deal.

8/1/2011 4:16:00 AM
Description: The NY Giants have made it quite clear to any team that wants a shot at DE Osi Umenyiora... "give us a first rounder or you don't have a shot." SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: With his current production, he's probably worthy of a first round draft pick, but his age and lingering injury history likely don't warrant it.

Description: Giants DL Osi Umenyiora is seeking either a new contract or a trade from the Giants, and ESPN's John Clayton thinks Seattle could be a possible trade partner. SOURCE: ESPN 710 RADIO
Insight: Clayton said Seattle is one of the teams he's interested in. That could be the type of player at defensive end, as long as it doesn't cost a first-round pick, that maybe there'd be some interest. Stay tuned.

Description: Giants DL Osi Umenyiora recently underwent surgery to repair labrum damage in his hip. SOURCE: NEWARK STAR-LEDGER
Insight: Umenyiora played through the injury in 2010, but it didn't stop him from racking up thirteen sacks and setting an NFL single-season record with ten forced fumbles. He will be fine if training camps start up on schedule.

10/6/2010 8:50:00 AM
Description: Before the team's game against the Bears Sunday night, Giants DL Osi Umenyiora needed an injection in his left knee in order to play. SOURCE: NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Insight: Osi had three sacks against the Bears' offensive line, so the knee couldn't have been bothering him that much afterward. It is the same knee that caused him to miss all of 2008, so it could be a little bit of an issue going forward. We will keep an eye on him in practice.

Description: Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora has put his disagreements with the New York Giants behind him.SOURCE: YAHOO! SPORTS - NFL - NEW YORK GIANTS NEWS
Insight: Umenyiora needs to put his differences aside and get out on the field. He'll battle Mathias Kiwanuka for the end position opposite Justin Tuck.

7/27/2010 12:55:00 PM
Description: According to doctors, Giants DL Osi Umenyiora's lingering hip pain won't go away without surgery. SOURCE: NEWARK STAR-LEDGER
Insight: Dr. Marc Philippon, who operated on Alex Rodriguez and Kurt Warner, is the one who broke the news. Obviously, Osi opted against surgery, but the medical staff will help him "manage" it as much as possible throughout the season. This is another reason why Mathias Kiwanuka will be the team's starting right defensive end come Week One.

7/27/2010 10:36:00 AM
Description: The Newark Star Ledger reports doctors have told Umenyiora the lingering pain in his hip will not subside without surgery.
Insight: Umenyiora will play this season without having had surgery obviously, so his role should be reduced to keep him on the field. Mathias Kiwanuka will start at right end for the Giants. (Rapid Draft.com)

5/27/2010 2:55:00 PM
Description: Mike Garafalo of the Newark Start Ledger reports Umenyiora is still bothered by the effects of a lingering hip injury.
Insight: Umenyiora tore a hip flexor in 2006, but has still experienced pain in the area. This spring, though, it has apparently been particularly bothersome. He is unlikely to make a major impact on the Giants if this continues to be an issue, and surgery is a possibility. (SportsBuff.com)

4/23/2010 11:32:00 AM
Description: Updating a previous item, the NY Daily News reports Umenyiora is convinced his days in New York are numbered.
Insight: The Giants drafted DE Jason Pierre-Paul in Thursday's first round, so Umenyiora could easily be moved sometime soon. The Giants have said publicly that he is not on the trading block. (SportsBuff.com)

4/23/2010 10:28:00 AM
Description: The Newark Star Ledger reports that Giants' GM Jerry Reese said Umenyiora is not on the trade block.
Insight: The Giants used their first round pick on DE Jason Pierre-Paul out of South Florida, and he is considered to be something of a developmental prospect. So Umenyiora looks likely to stay in the Big Apple. (SportsBuff.com)

4/22/2010 3:34:00 PM
Description: Expanding on a previous item, ESPN.com's Sal Paolantonio confirms the Giants have fielded calls about Umenyiora but are not shopping him.
Insight: Umenyiora has three years left on his contract, and the Giants may have trouble finding a trade partner willing to take on his salary even if they were shopping him. (SportsBuff.com)

4/22/2010 10:54:00 AM
Description: The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers' GM Marty Hurney has denied that the team has spoken to the Giants about Umenyiora.
Insight: Umenyiora could be on the trading block, but the Panthers may not want to take on his salary. (SportsBuff.com)

4/20/2010 10:03:00 AM
Description: The NY Daily News, citing two league sources, disputes a report from Monday that Umenyiora would be available for trade during this week's draft.
Insight: Umenyiora has been disgruntled and underperforming over the last couple years, so he could easily be on the move if the Giants draft a pass rusher. (SportsBuff.com)

4/19/2010 3:18:00 PM
Description: The Newark Star Ledger reports the Rams and Panthers expressed interest in trading for Umenyiora at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.
Insight: Umenyiora may be available during this week's draft, depending on what direction the Giants go with the #15 overall pick. (SportsBuff.com)

3/25/2010 10:02:00 AM
Description: The Newark Star Ledger reports Umenyiora is still battling the lingering effects of an old hip injury.
Insight: Umenyiora tore a hip flexor in 2006, and it apparently still flares up once in awhile. Surgery could be an option, but that's obviously not an ideal scenario. He'll have to compete for a starting job during training camp. (SportsBuff.com)
