Description: Oilers left wing Ryan Smyth knocked home two goals in Friday's victory over Calgary.
Insight: That ends a 13-game scoring drought for the 37-year-old. Being aggressive seems to be the key to Smyth's success. Both times he's taken six shots this year, he's scored multiple goals. We'll see what he does in Edmonton's next game Saturday against Philadelphia.

12/15/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: Edmonton left wing Ryan Smyth is questionable for Sunday's game against Anaheim due to a strained neck.
Insight: Smyth hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 19. He's totaled 11 points in 24 games this season, but a -8 rating won't make fantasy owners happy.

12/13/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Edmonton left wing Ryan Smyth is doubtful for Friday's game against Vancouver due to a strained neck.
Insight: Smyth hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 19. He's totaled 11 points in 24 games this season, but a -8 rating won't make fantasy owners happy.

12/12/2013 12:16:00 PM
Description: Edmonton left wing Ryan Smyth is questionable for Thursday's game against Boston due to a strained neck.
Insight: Smyth hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 19. He's totaled 11 points in 24 games this season, but a -8 rating won't make fantasy owners happy.

11/20/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Edmonton left wing Ryan Smyth generated a goal and two assists in Tuesday's blowout win over the Blue Jackets.
Insight: Smyth hadn't scored in over a month. Despite going +2 on Tuesday night, the 37-year-old's rating for the season is still in the negatives (-7 in 16 contests).

10/12/2013 10:32:00 PM
Description: Oilers veteran left wing Ryan Smith potted two goals in Saturday's overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.
Insight: Saturday marks the first time Smyth has scored in back-to-back games since December of 2011. We didn't think the 37-year-old had much left in the tank but it looks like we were wrong.

6/26/2011 12:36:00 PM
Description: The Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers have finally completed the deal that would send Ryan Smyth back to Edmonton. The Kings will receive Colin Fraser and a seventh-round pick in 2012. TSN
Insight: The original deal included Gilbert Brule, but the Kings would not finalize the contract because of Brule's health concerns. Fraser does not hold the kind of upside that Brule has, but the Kings knew that they had to trade Smyth. The 35-year-old forward might not be the kind of player that would seem to fit into the Oilers' rebuilding plans, but he should provide some leadership for the team's core group of young forwards.

6/24/2011 7:01:00 PM
Description: Oilers GM Steve Tambellini stated that a deal that would send Ryan Smyth to Edmonton for Gilbert Brule and a fourth-round pick has not yet been completed. TSN
Insight: The deal had been reported as completed just before the draft, but the two teams could not come to terms on the draft pick. However, expect this deal to be completed at some point, as the draft pick seems like a minor issue and Smyth seems intent on playing in Edmonton.

6/24/2011 2:12:00 PM
Description: According to TSN, the Los Angeles Kings have a trade in principle that would send Ryan Smyth to the Calgary Flames, pending Flames' ownership approval. TSN
Insight: There is no guarantee that Flames' ownership will accept the deal, given that other salary would likely need to be moved. If Robyn Regehr agrees to waive his no-trade clause and go to Buffalo, the Smyth deal may make more sense. It seems as though Smyth is more interested in playing in his native Alberta than he is in actually suiting up for the Edmonton Oilers.

6/20/2011 5:26:00 PM
Description: According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, Ryan Smyth has told the Los Angeles Kings that he would like to be traded to the Edmonton Oilers. TSN
Insight: It's not surprising that "Captain Canada" wants to return to the team he started his career with, given the teary-eyed press conference on the day that he was traded from Edmonton. The $4.5 million cap hit and the Oilers' rebuilding plan might be stumbling blocks, but he is in the later stages of his career and probably wouldn't require much in return from the Oilers as a result.

2/3/2011 11:03:00 AM
Description: Smyth led the Kings to victory Wednesday night with a pair of second-period power-play goals.
Insight: That gives him 10 power-play goals for the season, which ties for fourth in the league. Smyth has four goals in all over his past four games and 21 for the season. (RapidDraft.com)

2/3/2011 1:05:00 AM
Description: Ryan Smyth scored two power-play goals in the Kings' 3-1 win over Edmonton on Wednesday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: Smyth made his former team pay in the second period with the two power-play goals, assisted by both Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson. He has four goals in his last four games along with six points in his last five games. Smitty's 21 goals currently leads the Kings, so he is still getting the job done this season.

12/31/2010 2:15:00 AM
Description: Ryan Smyth scored two goals in the Kings' 7-4 loss to Philadelphia on Thursday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: Jarret Stoll assisted on both of Smyth's goals. Smyth is well on his way to another 20-goal season with 14 goals in 37 games this season.

12/22/2010 9:00:00 AM
Description: Smyth picked up an assist on Tuesday night against the Avalanche.
Insight: Smyth has points in four of his last six games with four goals and one assist over that span. (RapidDraft.com)

12/18/2010 11:29:00 PM
Description: Ryan Smyth scored two goals in the Kings' 6-1 win over Nashville on Saturday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: Jarret Stoll assisted on both of Smyth's goals. Captain Canada has 11 goals this season, including four goals in his last four games.

11/16/2010 8:05:00 AM
Description: Smyth scored his fifth goal of the season on Monday night against the Sharks.
Insight: Smyth now has ten points on the year with five goals and five assists. (RapidDraft.com)

11/7/2010 11:02:00 AM
Description: Smyth celebrated his 1,000th NHL game with a goal. It was his third straight game with a point, though he has just nine for the year.
Insight: Though Smyth's totals are nothing special, his plus-8 ranks ninth in the league. (RapidDraft.com)

10/21/2010 9:01:00 AM
Description: Smyth scored his third goal of the season on Wednesday against the Hurricanes.
Insight: Smyth now has three goals and three assists over his last three games. (RapidDraft.com)

10/13/2010 8:47:00 AM
Description: Ryan Smyth scored two goals and added an assist with a +3 and six shots on goal in the Kings' 3-1 win over Atlanta on Monday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: The points were Captain Canada's first of the season in his third game. Even though wear and tear are likely slowing him down a little, Smyth should be an integral part of the Kings' top-6 group of forwards this season.

10/13/2010 8:03:00 AM
Description: Smyth scored two goals and added an assist on Tuesday night in a win over Atlanta.
Insight: Smyth recorded his first three points of the season after being held scoreless in the first two games. (RapidDraft.com)
