NHL Game Summary - NY Islanders at St. Louis

(Thursday, December 5th)

Final Score: St. Louis 5, NY Islanders 1

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jay Bouwmeester had one goal and one assist to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 5-1 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday.

Derek Roy, David Backes, Magnus Paajarvi and Brenden Morrow also scored while T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk both added a pair of assists for the Blues, who had dropped two straight entering the contest. Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for the Blues.

"We were very effective on the power play," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We moved the puck, found shooting lanes. I thought all three goals, there was no chance for the goalie on any of the goals."

Andrew MacDonald tallied the lone goal for the Islanders, losers in eight straight. Anders Nilsson allowed all five goals on 26 shots.

Bouwmeester opened up the scoring at 11:47 of the first period, taking a pass from Vladimir Sovotka at the point and blasting a slapshot past Nilsson.

MacDonald tied the game 5:19 into the middle session. Frans Nielsen dropped the disc back to MacDonald at the point and he one-timed it through traffic and into the back of the net.

Roy scored the eventual game-winner just under two minutes later after beating Nilsson with a wrister.

Backes scored his 13th goal of the season at the 9:33 mark to make it 3-1, and Paajarvi capped a three-goal period for the Blues with his marker at the 14:59 mark.

Morrow redirected a Roy shot to account for the final difference.

"We're a club right now that's not scoring," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "We had chances in the first, thought we dictated the play against a really good hockey team. Second period, all of a sudden, bang, bang, bang, and we can't respond.

"Again, we're not a team that's scoring many goals right now."

Game Notes

Oshie has 20 assists this season ... The Blues were 3-for-6 on the power play ... New York is 2-11-2 over its last 15 games.
