NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Montreal

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Seth Jones' tally late in the third period lifted the Nashville Predators to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.

Jones' second career NHL goal came after a nifty pass off the boards to David Legwand, who made a return pass to the crashing defenseman. The fourth overall pick in this year's draft received the puck and patiently skated towards the goal before wristing a shot past Carey Price with 1:27 remaining.

"It felt good to get it in that last minutes," said Jones. "It was our first game in Canada, and it felt good. I feel good right now, I think I'm playing very well, and I'm confident."

Shea Weber also netted his second goal of the season for Nashville, which won on the road for the first time this season. Legwand had a pair of assists.

Pekka Rinne stopped 28 shots in the triumph.

Brendan Gallagher scored the lone goal for Montreal, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. Price allowed both goals on 37 shots.

"We had too many penalties in the first, and we were flat," said Gallagher. "In the end, that's how we lost the game."

Weber's goal came at the 12:31 mark of the first period, just after a 5-on-3 Nashville advantage came to an end. Legwand received a pass in front and was denied by Price, but he stayed with the puck and centered to Weber. Weber controlled the puck with his skate and fired a shot that was heading wide left, but hit a defender and found its way into the back of the net.

Midway through the second, Lars Eller skated in for Montreal and tried a point-blank backhand, which Rinne stopped but failed to control the rebound. Michael Bournival took a stab at the loose puck before it popped out to a crashing Gallagher, who poked it in to tie the score.

Montreal was outshot 30-17 in the first two periods, but controlled play early in the third and appeared to have scored the go-ahead goal 1:35 into the period. Eller took advantage of Rinne, who was on the ground, but did not get much power behind his shot. The referee signaled goal, but a video review confirmed that the puck did not cross the line.

"I had the puck in my armpit, between my elbow and my side," said Rinne. "I got fortunate there that Eller didn't get all of it. It was a weak shot, so I had the good fortune to get my arm around it."

The Predators fought off three third-period penalties to keep the score tied, paving the way for Jones' late winner.

Game Notes

Montreal was without winger Max Pacioretty, who led the team with 39 points a season ago, after he injured his hamstring in a win over Winnipeg on Tuesday ... The Predators have won four of the last six meetings with the Habs.
