NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Anaheim

(Friday, November 8th)

Final Score: Anaheim 6, Buffalo 2

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Getzlaf recorded his first career hat trick as the Anaheim Ducks continued their dominant start to the season with a 6-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Dustin Penner added a goal and three assists, while Cam Fowler and Andrew Cogliano both scored as well to keep Anaheim perfect at home with a 7-0-0 record. Getzlaf contributed an assist to Fowler's goal.

"You could tell, as soon as he started his skating, that Ryan was great. When we got the power-play goal early, it was because he did something he doesn't normally do, which is jump right into the play after a shot. As soon as he did that, I said 'Ok, he's going to have a good game.' Consequently, he got four points in the first period," said Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau.

Rookie netminder Frederik Andersen stopped 25-of-27 shots for his fifth win in as many starts.

Mikhail Grigorenko tallied both of Buffalo's goals in the loss, the Sabres' sixth in their last seven games. Ryan Miller allowed six goals on 34 shots and was replaced by Jonas Enroth at the start of the third period.

"That's the way you feel after these kinds of games. You start to give a team an advantage, a team that just beat us in our building by six goals. You give them an offensive advantage right off the start. It's not the way to go," said Miller.

Getzlaf scored all three of his goals in the first period. He opened the scoring early on the power play, putting away a shot from Cam Fowler on a rebound from the slot just 2:11 into the first.

Fowler added another power-play tally nearly eight minutes later. Fowler took a dish from Penner and fired a shot from the blue line that deflected off Buffalo defenseman Henrik Tallinder and into the net.

Grigorenko scored his first goal of the season on a tip-in at the 13:26 mark of the first.

Getzlaf quickly restored Anaheim's two-goal lead three minutes later. The captain slapped a laser from the right circle past Miller for a 3-1 lead. He forced a turnover from behind the net and took a feed from Perry in front and backhanded a shot past a sprawling Miller with 20 seconds to go in the first.

Penner located a rebound and lifted the puck over Miller to make it 5-1 nearly five minutes into the second.

Grigorenko scored off a pass and wristed a shot top shelf for his second of the game.

Cogliano tipped in his fourth of the season after Rickard Rakell dished a quick backhand pass to him. Rakell's beautiful pass was his first NHL point.
