NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, March 2nd (All times Eastern)

Carolina Hurricanes (26-25-9) at Anaheim Ducks (42-14-5), 8 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks resume a five-game homestand on Sunday night as they take on a Carolina Hurricanes club that is still looking for the first victory of its road trip.

The Ducks did not play their first game after the Olympic break until Friday and shook off some offensive rust to sneak past the St. Louis Blues 1-0. Jonas Hiller posted his fifth shutout of the season and Andrew Cogliano had the lone goal.

Anaheim won its second straight and is seven points up on the San Jose Sharks for first place in the Pacific Division.

"Everybody was sacrificing. I think we had more blocked shots than I had saves. It's great to get that win," said Hiller, who finished with 18 stops in his 21st career shutout.

With the victory, Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau became the fastest coach in NHL history to record 300 wins, doing so in his 496th career game.

"I don't really know what it means. I'm just happy we got the two points," said Boudreau.

The Ducks play the second game of their homestand tonight, while the Hurricanes are on the road for a fourth straight game.

After getting beat in Buffalo and Dallas to begin its post-Olympic schedule and this road trip, Carolina kicked off a span of three games in California over four days with a 3-1 setback to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.

Anton Khudobin made 28 saves, but the Hurricanes dropped their fourth game in a row.

"I thought our guys played hard, but we gave six or seven penalties to their team and eventually it's going to hurt you," said Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller. "That was a big goal that they scored finally, we just didn't capitalize."

Andrej Sekera had the lone Carolina goal.

The Hurricanes, who sit seven points out of third place in the Metropolitan Division, were without forward Alexander Semin due to a lower-body injury sustained on Thursday. His status for this game is unknown.

The 'Canes lost both meetings with the Ducks in 2011-12 before picking up a 3-2 shootout win at home over Anaheim on Nov. 15. They have lost two straight and four of six in Anaheim.
