Habs add Parenteau, send Briere to Avs

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward PA Parenteau and a 2015 fifth-round draft pick from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Daniel Briere.

Both Quebec natives have a $4 million cap hit, but Parenteau has two years remaining on his contract compared to one for Briere, who waived his no-move clause in order to facilitate Monday's trade.

Parenteau, 31, signed with the Avalanche in the summer of 2012 and played in all 48 games during the lockout shortened season. Knee injuries limited him to 55 games last season and he finished with 14 goals and 19 assists.

Briere joined the Canadiens on a two-year deal last summer after being bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers and posted 13 goals with 12 assists in 69 games last season with Montreal.

The 36-year-old Briere has proven to be great playoff performer throughout his career, racking up 116 points, including 53 goals, in 124 postseason games.
