NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Vancouver

(Saturday, April 5th)

Final Score: Vancouver 2, Los Angeles 1

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Richardson scored the winning goal with 1:23 to play as the Vancouver Canucks took a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Alexander Edler had the other goal and Eddie Lack stopped 25 shots for the Canucks, who snapped a three-game slide and kept their fledgling playoff hopes alive.

"It's huge," Lack said of the result. "It keeps our season alive and especially it feels good to get a win against a California team."

With 81 points, Vancouver is six points back of Dallas for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference with four games to play.

Slava Voynov had the only goal of the game for the Kings, who have lost three of their last four games. Jonathan Quick gave up both goals on 40 shots in the loss.

"We played a hard game," said Kings coach Darryl Sutter. "We played really solid."

The winning goal was set up by David Booth as he chipped the puck from the low left side to the circle for Zack Kassian, who one-touched the puck over to the right and Richardson one-timed it in.

Los Angeles got Quick out of the net in the final minute, but was unable to establish any pressure.

The first two periods nearly passed without a goal, but the Kings scored with 28 seconds left in the second. On the power play, the puck was being held up in the left corner, but Jeff Carter dug it out and sent a backhand pass to the front where Voynov wristed it in for his fourth of the season.

It took just 1:06 for the Canucks to tie the game in the third, and they did it on the power play when Daniel Sedin sent a saucer pass from the right side to the front where it went in off Edler's skate for his seventh of the season.
