NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Florida

(Friday, April 4th)

Final Score: Calgary 2, Florida 1

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Cammalleri netted the winner early in the second period and Joey MacDonald stopped 34 pucks, as Calgary edged Florida, 2-1, on Friday.

Kenny Agostino produced his first NHL goal for the Flames, who have won two in a row and six of 10 despite having been eliminated from playoff contention.

"We promised our fans and we even promised ourselves that we would play the games to win until the final second of the regular season," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said of his team playing hard down the stretch.

Vincent Trocheck provided the lone score and Roberto Luongo made 15 saves for the Panthers, who began a season-ending five-game homestand with their fifth straight loss overall.

"A win would have been nice, but the effort was there," Luongo said. "We just couldn't get the equalizer."

The Flames went back on top just after the six-minute mark. After missing from the slot on a shot taken on bended knee off a Jiri Hudler dish, Hudler tried again from the right side and fed Cammalleri for the go-ahead score.

It was the 500th career point for the two-time Calgary winger.

MacDonald was strong, making 16 saves in the middle frame and then stopped all seven Florida chances in the third period.

Luongo was on the bench for the final 75 seconds of regulation but his offense failed to prolong the contest.

Agostino earned the milestone marker just 94 seconds into the second period, taking a muted Brian McGrattan shot and beating Luongo from the left circle.

Trocheck evened things for the hosts 47 seconds later, rifling home a Jimmy Hayes rebound.

Game Notes

Agostino, who finished his four-year tenure at Yale with 132 points (56G, 76A) in 134 appearances and a national championship in 2013, signed with Calgary on March 17 ... Luongo failed to net a positive result in his 800th NHL game on his 35th birthday.
