NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, January 2nd (All times Eastern)

Winnipeg Jets (19-18-5) at Ottawa Senators (17-18-7), 7:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets will try to stay hot on Thursday, as they aim for a fourth straight win in a road battle against the Ottawa Senators.

The Jets have claimed three straight victories, giving the club its second- longest winning streak of the season behind a 4-0 stretch from Nov. 8-15.

Winnipeg has yielded a total of one goal over its last two victories and is coming off Tuesday's 3-0 home win against Buffalo.

Al Montoya turned aside 27 shots for his second shutout of the season to lead the Jets to the triumph at MTS Centre. Montoya stopped eight shots in both the first and third periods and turned aside 10 pucks in the middle stanza.

Keaton Ellerby, Jacob Trouba, and Anthony Peluso all lit the lamp for the Jets.

"Confidence, I mean as a goalie that might be your number one strength or weakness. For me it's just about doing the right things in practice and working hard. Like I said earlier the team is doing a great job in front of me," said Montoya on the win.

Winnipeg hopes to remain on the right track during a three-game road trip that begins tonight at Canadian Tire Centre. The Jets are 9-10-1 as the visiting club this season.

Like the Jets, Ottawa also enters tonight riding its longest win streak since early November. The Senators have posted consecutive wins over Boston and Washington to give the club back-to-back victories for the first time since a three-game winning streak from Nov. 5-9.

The Senators last played on Monday when they picked up a 3-1 win over the visiting Washington Capitals. Kyle Turris tallied the game-winner 3:14 into the second period, and Ottawa held on for the victory.

Mika Zibanejad and Clarke MacArthur each scored once and Craig Anderson posted 34 saves for the Senators.

"Well since we haven't done it since November we have talked about it a lot," Senators head coach Paul MacLean said of his squad winning back-to-back games. "I've thought the way we've played lately is very encouraging and tonight obviously could be a big turning point for us."

Ottawa, which is 10-10-4 as the host this season, has won three of four and five of its last seven games against the Jets. The clubs have split the last four encounters in Canada's capital city.
