NHL Game Summary - Montreal at Florida

(Sunday, December 29th)

Final Score: Florida 4, Montreal 1

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Campbell tallied a goal and an assist as the Florida Panthers topped the Montreal Canadiens, 4-1, from BB&T Center.

Dmitry Kulikov and Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida, while Sean Bergenheim added an empty-netter with 17 seconds left in regulation for the final margin.

Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves to help the Panthers snap a three-game losing skid. Clemmensen improved to 8-1-0 in his career against Montreal.

"I think it's a team that we've matched up well against for whatever reason," said Clemmensen.

Brandon Prust netted the lone goal for Montreal, which had a pair of goals waved off. Peter Budaj allowed three goals on 24 shots in defeat.

"They had a really strong second period," said Budaj. "They were capitalizing on their chances. It's a little disappointing."

Early in the contest, Tomas Fleischmann came up with a loose puck near center ice and skated patiently towards Budaj before sliding a pass to a charging Kulikov, who did the rest for a 1-0 edge at 6:10.

Montreal tied it at a goal apiece on Prust's fourth marker of the season. Clemmensen was pulled out of net on a Raphael Diaz wrister from the point, and Prust trickled a shot through traffic into the open net at 2:56 of the second period.

Less than two minutes later, Montreal failed to pick up Campbell, who skated uncontested into the Canadiens zone and fired a shot that beat Budaj. Barkov appeared to tap in the puck as it was on its way towards crossing the goal line, but Campbell received credit.

Barkov lit the lamp at 14:29 of the second for an insurance goal, as he deflected Tom Gilbert's shot into the back of the net.
