NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Phoenix

(Sunday, March 2nd)

Final Score: St. Louis 4, Phoenix 2

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Shattenkirk scored the go-ahead goal in a four-goal third period as the St. Louis Blues rallied for a win in Ryan Miller's debut, beating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 on Sunday.

Miller, acquired in a blockbuster trade Friday, let up a goal in the first three minutes but settled in to make 23 saves for St. Louis.

"I was pretty anxious and nervous all day," Miller said. "It's a new group of guys and you want to show them what you've got and let them know you're there for them."

Patrik Berglund had two goals and Magnus Paajarvi also scored for the Blues, who got their first post-Olympics win (1-2-0) after losing the first two games 1-0.

Paul Bissonnette and Jeff Halpern scored for the Coyotes, who have lost four in a row, including three since the break (0-2-1). Mike Smith gave up four goals on 30 shots.

"We were up 2-0 and we didn't find a way to get that third one," said Coyotes captain Shane Doan.

Berglund got the Blues on the board 3:18 into the third period on a goal set up by Jaden Schwartz's backhand pass from the other side of the slot.

Paajarvi tied it 4:21 later one a shot from the right circle that made it through a screen and Shattenkirk put St. Louis ahead on a power-play wrist shot from the left side that also made it through bodies in front with 7:14 left.

Berglund sealed the win with 1:39 remaining.

The Blues got Miller and forward Steve Ott in a five-player trade, sending goaltender Jaroslav Halak, forward Chris Stewart and prospect William Carrier and two draft picks to the Buffalo Sabres.

Miller, the 2010 Vezina winner, and Ott are both unrestricted free agents at the end of the season but the move bolstered the Blues' chance at a deep playoff run.

Miller, 33, collected 284 wins in 540 games for the Sabres since making his NHL debut in 2003.

He let one by just 2:56 into the game. To be fair, the puck was deflected off one of his new teammates, defenseman Barret Jackman, who was prone on the ice when his skate got in the way of Bissonnette's shot.

Miller didn't get much help on Phoenix's second goal either. Halpern was alone in front of the crease to deflect Keith Yandle's pass from the left boards at 7:09 of the second period.

Game Notes

Halpern scored his 150th career goal ... The Blues play Tampa Bay on Tuesday in their only home game in the first seven post-Olympic break games ... The Coyotes host Vancouver on Tuesday ... St. Louis snapped a three-game road losing streak ... Ott played 14 minutes.
