NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, October 31st (All times Eastern)

Anaheim Ducks (10-3-0) at Boston Bruins (7-4-0), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks will be without Teemu Selanne for the rest of their road trip, but could have forward Dustin Penner back in the lineup on Thursday night when they visit the Boston Bruins.

The Ducks lost the first two contests of their eight-game swing, but have rebounded to win three straight one-goal decisions. That includes a 3-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday as the club rallied from a slow start.

Anaheim gave up two first-period goals, but outshot Philadelphia 27-13 over the final 40 minutes. Andrew Cogliano scored in the second period and Kyle Palmieri netted a pair of third-period goals, putting home the winner with 4:09 to play.

Cogliano's goal was his 200th NHL point and Jonas Hiller earned the win with 26 saves.

"Everything we wanted to do in the first period, they did to us and we were sort of sitting back in awe almost, of them," admitted Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau. "Then after the first period we realized they were human and you know if we just do what we do as long as we do it, that we might have a chance."

The Ducks did see Selanne exit in the third period after taking a stick to the face, causing him to lose several teeth and need 40 stitches to close a cut. The 43-year-old did not return to the game and was expected to leave the club and return to California for oral surgery.

Selanne is expected to return to action in two weeks and has produced three goals and seven points in 11 games this season.

The veteran joins Saku Koivu (head), Jakob Silfverberg (broken right hand) and Viktor Fasth (lower body) on the sidelines, though Penner could play for the first time in six games after suffering a concussion versus Dallas on Oct. 20.

Penner has two goals and four points in six games this season.

The Ducks will visit the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers following tonight's game and take on a Bruins club that dropped a 3-2 decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night.

In a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals, which Boston swept in four games, the Penguins got a bit of revenge with a 3-2 victory.

Patrice Bergeron notched a goal and an assist while Jarome Iginla pulled the Bruins within a goal when he scored with 1:43 to play. Boston failed to net the equalizer though and has lost two straight following a four-game win streak.

Tuukka Rask allowed all three goals on 31 shots in defeat, Boston's first in five road games this season.

"We know we can be a lot better," Iginla said. "In the third, we were a lot better and were able to get back into it, but just came up short."

The Bruins are hosting the Ducks for the first time since a 3-0 setback on Dec. 20, 2010, Anaheim's second victory in a row in Boston. It was also the Ducks' third straight victory overall in this series before suffering a 3-2 home loss to the Bruins on March 25, 2012.

Hiller is 3-1-0 with a 2.18 goals against average in five meetings (4 starts) with the Bruins.

Rask lost his only previous encounter with the Ducks back on Jan. 13, 2010, giving up four goals on 32 shots. Backup Chad Johnson has never faced them.
