NHL Game Summary - Florida at Ottawa

(Saturday, November 9th)

Final Score: Ottawa 3, Florida 2

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Clarke MacArthur's second-period power-play goal was the difference, and Robin Lehner stopped 26 shots as Ottawa clipped Florida, 3-2, in a Saturday matinee.

Kyle Turris and Mika Zibanejad tallied early for the Senators, who have won three straight after losing five in a row.

"I thought the way we played today was a pretty solid effort," said Senators head coach Paul MacLean. "Robin gave us another good game in net, we kept the shots under 30 which certainly gives our goalies an opportunity to play well."

Nick Bjugstad and Marcel Goc supplied offense for the Panthers, who skidded to their eighth consecutive defeat.

Tim Thomas ended up with 29 saves in the loss.

Goc deflected a Matt Gilroy blast by Lehner, cutting Florida's deficit to 3-2 just past the midway point of the third period, but the visitors came no closer.

The Panthers failed to net an equalizer with a pair of late-game power plays and Thomas was sent to the bench for an extra skater with only 37 seconds remaining to no avail.

Florida dropped seven in succession before firing head coach Kevin Dineen and his assistants on Friday and naming Peter Horachek interim coach, but the shake up did little to spark the Panthers in the short term.

Ottawa struck twice in a 19-second span early in the contest. Turris tipped in a Bobby Ryan feed from the right-wing boards with 1:45 on the clock, and Zibanejad capitalized on a Panthers turnover deep in the offensive zone and put back his own rebound at 2:04.

"At this level, when you put yourself behind the eight-ball that early in the game, especially on unforced errors, the results won't be good," Horachek noted.

Bjugstad halved Florida's deficit two minutes later by taking the puck from behind the net and beating Lehner with a stuffer.

MacArthur restored the Sens' two-goal edge on a power play before six minutes elapsed in the second period when he one-timed an Erik Karlsson feed home from the right circle.
