NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Los Angeles

(Saturday, November 9th)

Final Score: Los Angeles 5, Vancouver 1

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Toffoli notched two goals and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 5-1, at Staples Center.

Mike Richards had a goal and two assists, while Justin Williams and Jordan Nolan accounted for the other two tallies. Jonathan Quick turned aside 25- of-26 shots for Los Angeles' third win in its past four games.

"We were solid. We had a really good start. We were playing against a team that has been playing very well, but we were able to get up a couple [of goals] and keep the lead," said Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter.

Dan Hamhuis scored the lone goal for Vancouver with Kevin Bieksa and Ryan Kesler picking up the helpers. The Canucks have now dropped two of their last three contests.

Roberto Luongo was chased from the net after allowing four goals on 18 shots. Eddie Lack stopped 13-of-14 shots in relief.

"I thought in the first two periods we had surges early, but couldn't score. It's a 5-1 game and you think you got spanked, but I thought Quick made some really important saves at key times. We had some breakdowns, and it's in the back of our net," said Vancouver head coach John Tortorella.

Nolan opened the scoring for the Kings nearly eight minutes into the first. Linden Vey took the puck off a falling Hamhuis and led a rush to the right of Luongo. Vey deked past Vancouver defenseman Brad Richardson and dished the puck over to Nolan, who wristed a shot past the Vancouver netminder.

Richards entered Vancouver's zone with the puck and passed to Drew Doughty, who found a crashing Toffoli to the right of Luongo for a tip-in with under a minute left in the period.

Vancouver got on the board when Hamhuis fired a shot through a maze of players past Quick to cut Los Angeles' lead in half nearly nine minutes into the second.

After Hamhuis' goal, the Kings would respond with three goals in 2:33.

Richards crashed the net, tipping in a feed from Dwight King, and 1:46 later, Anze Kopitar slipped a quick backhand pass from behind the net, finding Williams, who tapped the puck past Luongo.

Lack entered the game after Williams' goal, but the Kings quickly scored again. Toffoli and Richards moved up on a two-on-one. Toffoli slid a pass to Richards, who dished the puck right back for Toffoli to bury in an open net to give the Kings a four-goal lead.

Game Notes

Nolan established a career high after scoring his third of the season ... Toffoli now has a point in all three games since being added to the lineup ... Richards now has points in four straight games ... The Canucks have gone six straight games without allowing a power-play goal ... Vey's assist was his first NHL point.
