Rested Ducks hope to extend record home start vs. Oilers

(SportsNetwork.com) - The well-rested Anaheim Ducks aim to extend the best home start in franchise history on Sunday night as they play host to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Ducks remain the lone team left in the NHL this season without a regulation loss at home, going 12-0-2. They are also just the second club since 2005-06 to go at least 14 games without a regulation loss as the host to begin the season, joining a 2008-09 San Jose Sharks team that began 20-0-2.

Anaheim won its fourth straight game overall with Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Corey Perry extended his goal-scoring streak to seven straight games, a career high, while defenseman Alex Grant scored for the second time in as many NHL games.

Both goals came in the second period and Jonas Hiller made 23 saves as Perry's 21st tally of the campaign stood up as the game winner, with Anaheim improving to 5-0-2 in its last seven games.

Grant began the scoring 2:37 into the second period and has scored his two NHL goals on just two shots.

"I think (Wild netminder Josh Harding) was cheating a little bit on the pass. I just happened to see that at the right time, and I just threw it on net. Good things happen when you throw it on net," said Grant.

However, Grant was reassigned to Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Thursday along with defenseman Nolan Yonkman and forward David Steckel.

Out of action for a few days, the Ducks are likely to have defenseman Francois Beauchemin and forward Mathieu Perreault back from injury. Beauchemin has missed the last 10 games with an upper-body injury, while Perreault had a lower-body ailment that held him out of six straight contests.

However, forwards Teemu Selanne and Daniel Winnik both missed practice on Friday due to the flu.

Perry has a point in nine straight, with nine goals and three assists over that span, while Ryan Getzlaf notched an assist on Wednesday to give him a point in each of his last 15 games played. However, he is only on an official 13-game point streak (6 goals, 10 assists) as he missed some time due to injury during the run.

The Oilers will try to solve the Ducks tonight after dropping the opener of a four-game road trip on Friday. Edmonton lost its second in a row, falling 4-0 to the Vancouver Canucks.

Devan Dubnyk made 36 saves but allowed all four goals -- three in the third period.

"We just couldn't ever get going it seemed like," Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins said.

This is the first of five matchups between these clubs and the Ducks have won four in a row and 14 of the last 16 encounters. That includes a win in five of the last seven meetings at home.
