Ducks aim to continue home point streak vs. Bruins

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks gave their fans a big scare last time out before eventually extending their season-opening point streak at home.

The Ducks aim to complete a perfect four-game homestand on Tuesday night as they welcome the Boston Bruins, who begin a three-game tour of California.

After notching 11 goals in winning the first two games of their homestand, the Ducks trailed by a goal late versus the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday before Nick Bonino notched a game-tying tally with 1:27 to play in overtime.

The game then appeared headed to a shootout despite Anaheim skating on a late 4-on-3 power play in overtime, but Corey Perry lit the lamp with 0.6 seconds left on the clock off a feed from Ryan Getzlaf to give the Ducks a 4-3 win.

"I knew there wasn't much time left, coming into the zone. I saw a couple seconds on the clock, and just yelled for the puck," said Perry. "I knew I would shoot it right away. It wasn't hard, but it probably fooled (Vancouver goaltender Eddie Lack) more than anything. It found a way in.

"Of all the places I shot tonight, a trickler is the one that goes in."

Perry picked up his team-leading 23rd goal of the season, while Getzlaf continues to lead the Ducks with 28 assists and 48 points.

The duo's game-winning hookup, along with 17 saves from Jonas Hiller, improved Anaheim to 17-0-2 at home this season. The Ducks are the fifth club since 1973-74 to record a point in each of its first 19 home games of the season.

The last to do so was the San Jose Sharks, who went 20-0-2 over their first 22 home games of the 2008-09 campaign.

Hiller, meanwhile, extended his club-record winning streak to 11 straight games. He is the first NHL goaltender to win 11 games in a row since Mike Smith of the Phoenix Coyotes from Feb. 4-28, 2012.

Anaheim has won 13 of its last 14 games overall.

The Bruins could threaten the Ducks' point streak as they come to town having won five of their last seven contests. They won the final two of a three-game homestand, including Saturday's 4-1 triumph over the Winnipeg Jets.

Defenseman Torey Krug sparked the offense with a pair of goals and an assist, giving the rookie 10 goals and 23 points in 42 games this season.

"He's been a great asset to our hockey club and an asset that we had been looking for a long time," noted Claude Julien about Krug.

Daniel Paille also scored and Tuukka Rask made 36 saves in Julien's 500th game behind the Boston bench.

"Nice to be here for that long, and like I always say, I hope I can be here for another 500," said Julien, who has gone 284-158-58 with the Bruins.

Boston is also set to visit the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks on this trip, but first try to secure a third straight victory over Anaheim.

The Bruins logged a 3-2 shootout win at home over the Ducks on Oct. 31, with Jarome Iginla scoring the lone goal of the tiebreaker.

Both Hiller and Rask made 21 saves through overtime.

Rask improved to 1-1-0 with a 2.90 goals against average in two career meetings with the Ducks, while Hiller, named to Team Switzerland for the 2014 Winter Games on Monday, fell to 3-1-1 with a 2.12 GAA in his career when facing the Bruins.
