Bruins beat Maple Leafs

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrice Bergeron and Carl Soderberg each had a goal and an assist in the Boston Bruins' 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday.

Torey Krug, Kevan Miller and Jarome Iginla also lit the lamp for the Bruins, who have won two in a row. Chad Johnson stopped 30-of-32 shots.

"I think it's my fifth game right now and I definitely feeling more comfortable the more games I'm playing here," Johnson said. "I think getting in a couple more games within a week's period time or a couple weeks is nice, and tonight I felt really good."

Boston was without forwards Shawn Thornton, Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly and defensemen Adam McQuaid and Johnny Boychuk.

Peter Holland had a goal and an assist for the Leafs, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Jay McClement also scored.

Jonathan Bernier turned aside 35-of-39 shots in defeat.

The Maple Leafs drew first blood at 12:20 of the first period when Holland scored on a rebound of a Jake Gardiner shot.

The Bruins tied the game at the 5:14 mark of the middle stanza. Reilly Smith slid a pass to Soderberg, whose one-timer got past Bernier.

Boston went in front for good when Krug scored on a slap shot at 6:47.

Miller's first career NHL goal came at the 15:58 mark of the second frame. His shot from the point beat Bernier.

McClement scored on a rebound 37 seconds into the third period.

Iginla lit the lamp with four minutes remaining to give Boston a 4-2 lead. Bergeron added an empty-net goal with 11 seconds to play.

"The first period it seemed like we had our legs, we were doing a lot of things," said Toronto coach Randy Carlyle. "Then we take the one penalty and their (tying) goal kind of flattened us and the next thing you know we're killing (a penalty) again right after. And it was bang-bang, all of a sudden they scored two goals and the life went out of our hockey club."

Game Notes

Boston went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Toronto went 0-for-4 on the man advantage ... The Bruins placed Kelly on long-term injured reserve and put McQuaid on IR.
