NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Florida

(Sunday, March 16th)

Final Score: Vancouver 4, Florida 3 (SO)

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Luongo made 31 total saves against his former team.

He needed at least 32.

Nicklas Jensen beat Luongo once in regulation and again in a shootout as the Vancouver Canucks edged the Florida Panthers 4-3 Sunday in the goalie's first game against the Canucks since they dealt him on March 4.

Dan Hamhuis and Alexandre Burrows also scored in regulation for the Canucks, who got just their third win in nine games (3-5-1).

Jensen had the only goal of the shootout after Jimmy Hayes scored his second goal to tie the game for Florida with 1:35 left in regulation. Jensen's shot hit the post, then trickled in after going off Luongo's back.

"Especially the way the game was tied up there at the end, to get the win was huge for us," said Jensen.

Eddie Lack made three stops in the shootout and had 26 saves in the game as Vancouver improved to 3-12-1 in its last 16 road games.

Luongo had 29 saves in regulation and Vincent Trocheck had the other Canucks goal.

The Panthers lost for the fourth time in their last five games and Luongo fell to 2-2-1 in net since he was acquired from Vancouver along with forward Steven Anthony in exchange for goalie Jacob Markstrom and forward Shawn Matthias.

Luongo became the all-time wins leader in Panthers history during his first five-season stint with the team before he was traded to Vancouver in 2006.

"I saw a few guys before the game, had a little chat. But once we were out there it felt like a normal game, especially once you get the first few minutes under your belt," said Luongo. "It felt like any other game."

He made seven saves in a scoreless second period and Trocheck tied the score at 2-2 for Florida when he jammed in a loose puck near the post 4:19 into the third.

Scottie Upshall went off for tripping soon after that and Burrows scored on the Vancouver power play at 5:34, fighting for position in front and getting the puck to go in on a second try off a rebound for a 3-2 lead.

Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa made a kick-save with his right skate behind Lack in the crease during a Florida flurry midway through the third period, but the Panthers tied the game later.

With Alex Edler off for holding, Hayes scored after he was left all alone in front of the crease for a rebound off Brian Campbell's shot from the left.

Hayes' first goal on a power play gave Florida a 1-0 lead with 3:32 left in the first period but the Canucks scored twice in the next 2:07 to take the lead.

Hamhuis' point shot hit a Panthers skate in traffic to make it past Luongo and Jensen scored on a one-timer from the slot to make it 2-1. Burrows and Henrik Sedin assisted on both goals.
