Detroit Red Wings (2-0-0) at Boston Bruins (1-0-0), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings look to make it three straight victories to open the season on Saturday night as they visit the Boston Bruins.

The Red Wings began the season with a 2-1 victory over visiting Buffalo, then headed to Carolina and rallied for a 3-2 overtime decision against the Hurricanes on Friday night. Henrik Zetterberg scored with 17 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and Stephen Weiss won it with his first goal as a member of Detroit.

Weiss, who signed with the Red Wings this offseason after 10 campaigns with the Florida Panthers, tapped a rebound home at the 3:13 mark of the extra frame.

Justin Abdelkader also scored and Jimmy Howard made 23 saves.

"That was a big win. It was a good character win and a good comeback by all the boys in here," said Weiss. "We're happy to get the two points."

Detroit is looking to duplicate its start to the 2011-12 campaign, when it won its first five contests of the season, and takes on a Boston club that began defense of its Eastern Conference championship with a 3-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday.

The Bruins got a pair of short-handed goals in the contest, including Chris Kelly's successful penalty shot in the first period. Milan Lucic scored the winner late in the second period and Patrice Bergeron added the second short- handed score in the third.

Tuukka Rask stopped 32 shots for the Bruins.

"Our team's in a good place right now mentally and we're ready for another challenge this year," said Bruins head coach Claude Julien of his team, which is coming off a second conference title in the last three seasons.

That includes Bergeron, the 2012 Selke Trophy winner who suffered a variety of injuries during last season's Cup Finals. That included a broken rib, separated right shoulder and punctured lung that left him healing over the offseason.

"Bergy was Bergy. He didn't look like he missed a beat," Julien said.

The Bruins will now try to beat the Red Wings for the first time in five meetings, having not bested the club since Nov. 29, 2008. The four-game series slide includes a 3-2 shootout setback in Boston in the most recent encounter on Nov. 25, 2011.
