Jagr, Devils roll into Chicago

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New Jersey Devils try to push their point streak to five games in a row on Monday night as they visit the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Devils bounced back from an overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday to beat the Washington Capitals 5-4 in overtime the following night. They did so by overcoming a pair of two-goal deficits in the third period and then getting a goal from Andy Greene on a rebound 43 seconds into the extra frame.

Jaromir Jagr ripped a shot from the high slot that was sticked away, but Greene got the shaft of his stick on the puck and knocked it into the net.

"I honestly can't remember the last overtime goal I scored," Greene remarked. "It feels great to do it and get a big win tonight."

Marek Zidlicky scored twice and both Greene and Jagr ended with a goal and two assists. Dainius Zubrus added a goal and a helper as the Devils moved to 3-0-1 in their last four.

Martin Brodeur backstopped the victory with 18 saves.

Jagr, meanwhile, hit another milestone by tying Mark Messier for seventh on the NHL's all-time goals list with 694. The 41-year-old has 13 goals and 33 points in 37 games this season.

The Blackhawks have points in seven of their last eight games, but did fail to hold a lead on Friday versus the Vancouver Canucks.

Daniel Sedin scored the tying goal in the third period and Ryan Kesler had the deciding goal in the eighth round of the shootout for the Canucks. Kesler used a backhand-forehand move to beat Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta, who was bested twice in the tiebreaker.

"Sometimes it feels like somebody is flipping the coin to decide who wins," said Raanta, who stopped 22 shots.

Patrick Kane remained red-hot for Chicago, 5-1-2 in its last eight, registering a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games. He has totaled six goals and 14 assists over that span.

The Devils have won two straight and are 12-1-2 with a tie in their last 16 games versus the Blackhawks. They won their most recent trip to Chicago, picking up a 5-3 decision on Nov. 3, 2010.
