Blues extend Hitchcock for upcoming season

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Blues extended the contract of head coach Ken Hitchcock for the 2014-15 season on Wednesday.

The club also announced that associate coach Brad Shaw and assistant coach Ray Bennett will return next season while assistant coach Gary Agnew and goaltending coach Corey Hirsch will not be back with the Blues.

Hitchcock guided the Blues to the third best record in the Western Conference and to a franchise-best 52 wins last season. The team made their third straight postseason appearance, but lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.

The 62-year-old has compiled a 124-55-20 regular season record with the Blues, making him the team's all-time leader in points percentage (.673). He was honored as the NHL's top coach, taking home the Jack Adams Award, for his efforts in the 2011-12 season.

The Edmonton native has posted a 657-405-178 all-time regular season record, while winning the Stanley Cup in 1999 with the Dallas Stars and the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2002, 2010, and 2014 Winter Olympics.

He ranks seventh on the NHL's all-time wins list, including second among active coaches.
