NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Edmonton

(Saturday, November 2nd)

Final Score: Detroit 5, Edmonton 0

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Petr Mrazek earned his first NHL shutout and the Detroit Red Wings continued their long streak of success against the Edmonton Oilers with a 5-0 win Saturday night.

Mrazek, in his third NHL game and first this season, faced only 14 shots and the Red Wings got goals from five different players to earn at least a point against the Oilers for the 14th straight game (12-0-2).

They are 8-0-5 in Edmonton since their last regulation loss in the city on Oct. 21, 2006.

Everyone seems to enjoy playing in Edmonton these days. The Oilers, just 1-5 at home this season, have been outscored 17-2 in their last four games at Rexall Place. They have lost five in a row overall for the second time this season already.

"We had no one stand up and push back," said Oilers coach Dallas Eakins. "We've got a group that is hurting. They're dying. They've lost their confidence. The best way to get it back is with some success and it takes one guy to push back. It feeds the group."

The Red Wings won their third in a row, improving to 3-0 on a four-game road trip that came on the heels of a four-game losing streak. Darren Helm, Tomas Tatar, Jakub Kindl, Joakim Andersson and Todd Bertuzzi had the goals.

Edmonton goalie Richard Bachman suffered an injured groin in the first period after allowing two goals on nine shots. Jason LaBarbera gave up three goals on 22 shots.

Helm and Tatar scored 27 seconds apart in the first period -- Helm on a break and Tatar after he collected a rebound with his skate in the slot to make it 2-0 just 5:36 in.

Kindl scored on a long slap shot from the high right side 6:55 into the second period and Andersson and Bertuzzi tacked on goals in the third, both from the low left side.

Bertuzzi's power play marker was his 21st career goal against the Oilers -- his most vs. any team.

Game Notes

Edmonton was 0-for-3 on the power play and has scored just once in its last 29 opportunities with the man-advantage ... The Red Wings finish their road trip Monday in Winnipeg ... The Oilers start a four-game road trip Tuesday against the Florida Panthers ... Detroit's last regulation loss home or away to Edmonton came Dec. 3, 2009.
