NHL Game Summary - Colorado at Los Angeles

(Saturday, November 23rd)

Final Score: Colorado 1, Los Angeles 0 (OT)

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jamie McGinn scored off a lucky bounce at 2:31 of overtime to lead the Colorado Avalanche in a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Los Angeles lost the puck in the Colorado end and play went the other way. Taking the puck in down the left wing, Jan Hejda threw the puck to the middle for John Mitchell, who then fed the puck over to the right circle. From there, McGinn fired a shot on net that Ben Scrivens stopped, but the disc came out front and bounced off of Los Angeles' Jarret Stoll before sliding into the net.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 19 shots for his first shutout of the season and 12th of his career for the Avalanche, who have won three straight.

"It was a 60-minute effort, I thought it was one of the best game of the year. It was the best game of the year for us," said Avs head coach Patrick Roy.

Scrivens got the loss despite stopping 32 shots for the Kings, who have lost their past two.

"We played a good game, but we have a lot of guys out of the lineup, knocked two guys out again last game. The goalie has to make big saves, which he did," said Kings head coach Darryl Sutter. "He has to do that when we're not scoring. Those kids are growing into their team, they're good players. They have excellent goaltending, both of those guys."

Los Angeles had trouble generating many chances, as the team had just 14 shots through the first two period before managing just four in the third and one in overtime.

Scrivens, meanwhile, kept his team in the contest with 16 saves in the second period and 10 in the third to force overtime.

Game Notes

The Kings play at Vancouver on Monday ... Colorado hosts St. Louis on Wednesday ... The Kings took two of three from the Avs last season ... Los Angeles was 0-for-4 on the power play while Colorado failed on its three chances.
