NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, November 5th (All times Eastern)

Dallas Stars (6-6-2) at Boston Bruins (8-5-0), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Seguin returns to his former home on Tuesday, as the Dallas Stars visit the Boston Bruins for an interconference battle at TD Garden.

Seguin was selected by Boston with the second overall pick of the 2010 draft and he figured to be a building block for the team's future before being traded to Dallas last summer as part of a blockbuster deal. The 21-year-old was shipped to the Stars along with Rich Peverley and Ryan Button and Boston received forward Loui Eriksson and a trio of prospects in return.

Rumors of Seguin's immature behavior while with Boston followed him out the door, but the youngster has fared well on the ice since moving to Dallas. He is currently leading the club with six goals and 15 points in 14 games.

"I have no idea what to expect, but I am excited," Seguin told his team's official website after Monday's practice in Boston. "I saw some of the guys when I got in yesterday and it's going to be a cool experience."

Peverley also has added two goals and five assists for the Stars.

Eriksson, meanwhile, has two goals and an assist in eight games, but is out indefinitely after getting hit with an illegal check from Buffalo's John Scott on Oct. 23.

Seguin and the Stars are coming off a win on Sunday, as they edged the Ottawa Senators in a shootout to begin a three-game road trip. Dallas had lost two straight before posting the 4-3 decision at Canadian Tire Centre.

Jamie Benn scored in the second round of the shootout help lift the Stars to their third win in six games. Ray Whitney, Valeri Nichushkin and Antoine Roussel scored in regulation for the Stars, while Kari Lehtonen stopped 33- of-36 shots for the win.

Lehtonen also stopped all three Dallas skaters during the shootout.

"We're going to have to learn how to win, and again, we made it tough on ourselves," Dallas coach Lindy Ruff said.

The victory improved Dallas' road record this season to 3-5-0. Ruff's club is set to complete its current trip with Thursday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston will try to get back in the win column Tuesday after getting beat in three of its last four trips to the ice. The Bruins won a season-high four in a row from Oct. 17-24, but have gone 1-3-0 since that hot streak.

The B's halted a two-game slide with Thursday's shootout win against visiting Anaheim, but followed that victory with Saturday's 3-1 road loss against the New York Islanders. Dougie Hamilton scored Boston's lone goal versus the Isles, while Chad Johnson, in his second start between the pipes this season, made 31 saves in defeat.

"We know we've got a good team on paper, we've just got to transfer that to the ice," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said.

Boston is opening a five-game homestand tonight and hopes the extended stay in Beantown can get the club back on track. The Bruins are 4-3-0 at TD Garden this season.

No. 1 goaltender Tuukka Rask expects to be back between the pipes for Boston on Tuesday, but defenseman Johnny Boychuk could miss a second straight game with an upper-body injury.

Dallas halted a three-game losing streak in this series when it posted a 4-2 win over a visiting Boston club in the most recent meeting between the teams on Dec. 31, 2011. The Bruins have taken two straight and three of their last four home games in this series.
