Description: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger (severe post-concussion syndrome) appears to be getting ready for his second career as a scout, according to Tim Panaccio of csnphilly.com.
Insight: Pronger hasn't played since the 2011-12 season. Over his 18-year career he twice led the league in plus-minus rating, scored 157 goals, assisted on 541 goals, won the Hart Memorial and James Norris Memorial Trophies in 1999-00 and was a five-time All-Star.
12/15/2011 6:37:00 PM
Description: The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that Chris Pronger will miss the rest of the regular season with severe post-concussion syndrome. TSN
Insight: Fantasy owners in single-season leagues must drop Pronger outright. His keeper league value isn't overly high either, given his current injury and his age. Expect the Flyers to make a pitch for a short-term option on the blueline to make up for the loss of Pronger.
12/9/2011 1:16:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger has concussion-like symptoms in addition to the knee injury that he is currently recovering from. Philadelphia Flyers
Insight: Pronger has accumulated too much wear and tear over the past couple seasons to be relied upon in fantasy leagues, although he can still bring offense when he is in the lineup.
11/28/2011 6:30:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger will undergo knee surgery and will be sidelined for the next four weeks. TSN
Insight: Pronger has battled through various injuries over the past few seasons, which at his age makes him very risky in fantasy leagues. He was off to a solid start, however, with 12 points (1g-11a) in 13 games.
11/9/2011 2:24:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger is expected to return to the Flyers' lineup on Wednesday. TSN
Insight: Pronger will return after missing the past two weeks with an eye injury, wearing a visor of course. He was off to a great start before the injury with seven points (1g-6a) in eight games.
10/30/2011 1:25:00 AM
Description: Chris Pronger said he is dealing with blurred vision and doesn't know when he will return. TSN
Insight: Continue to keep Pronger on your bench next week. When he returns, he will need to wear a visor, which he doesn't sound too keen on.
10/25/2011 12:23:00 AM
Description: Chris Pronger is expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks with an eye injury as a result of a follow-through from the stick of Mikhail Grabovski. NHL.com
Insight: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told reporters after the game that Pronger would be on "bed rest" for the next four days, aside from visits to the eye doctor each day. Holmgren also said that Pronger would need to wear a visor upon his return. Pronger owners should move him to the bench and hope that the damage to his eye is not serious.
9/29/2011 3:03:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger has told reporters that he plans to be in the Flyers' lineup for Thursday's preseason game. NHL.com
Insight: Unless Pronger is yanking everyone's chain, he is returning to the lineup from offseason back surgery earlier than expected. Although it doesn't sound as if he'll miss any regular-season time, Pronger is still a significant injury risk in fantasy leagues.
9/17/2011 1:18:00 AM
Description: The Philadelphia Flyers have named Chris Pronger as the team captain. Philadelphia Flyers
Insight: Danny Briere and Kimmo Timonen were named alternate captains, a role that Pronger held last season. There was a lot of debate last season as to whether Pronger or Mike Richards was the real captain of the Flyers, even though the now-departed Richards held the C. In fact, Pronger being named captain was about as difficult to predict as whether snow will fall at the North Pole in December.
9/10/2011 1:39:00 AM
Description: Chris Pronger skated for the first time since undergoing offseason back surgery. TSN
Insight: Pronger is unlikely to be ready for training camp when it opens, but he is hoping to be cleared to return by the start of the NHL season. Given his age and his recent injury history, he is a major risk in fantasy leagues.
7/13/2011 3:03:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger told TSN Radio that he is currently behind in his rehabilitation from offseason back surgery. TSN
Insight: Pronger may not be ready for the start of training camp and may not even be ready for the start of the season. Fantasy owners should monitor his recovery, as he has suffered numerous injuries in recent seasons.
5/26/2011 3:10:00 PM
Description: With a long summer of rehab ahead, Chris Pronger told Philadelphia media on Thursday that he is unsure if he'll be ready for training camp. Philly.com
Insight: Pronger is mainly recovering from back surgery, although he has been sidelined with numerous ailments since being acquired by the Flyers two summers ago. If you are a Pronger owner in a keeper league, monitor the aging defenseman's progress through the summer.
5/11/2011 5:02:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger will undergo back surgery to have a disc removed on Thursday. Philadelphia Daily News
Insight: The surgery will be Pronger's fourth in less than twelve months, so it will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy for the entire 2011-12 season.
5/9/2011 3:10:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger may undergo offseason back surgery to repair a disc that is either bulging or herniated. NHL.com
Insight: Pronger should know in the next few days if he will undergo his fourth surgery in less than a year. Pronger should still be an effective defenseman on fantasy teams going forward, but the 36-year-old defenseman is now showing significant signs of wear and tear.
5/7/2011 12:02:00 AM
Description: According to Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada, Chris Pronger may have a herniated disc that resulted in his back and leg problems that forced him to miss Games 2-4 of the series against Boston. CBC Sports
Insight: Pronger may need offseason surgery on his back to fix the injury, which he had to battle along with the hand injury that forced him to miss much of the first round. Pronger was a virtual non-factor in this season's playoffs, playing in just three games while recording just one assist. The Flyers clearly missed his defensive presence in this series, as they allowed 20 goals over four games to the Bruins.
5/4/2011 1:36:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger won't likely play in Game 3 against Boston on Wednesday because of a lower-body injury. Philadelphia Daily News
Insight: Pronger, who is likely dealing with a hamstring injury, did not skate on Wednesday. The Flyers have listed his status as day-to-day and do not appear intent on rushing him back in spite of their 0-2 deficit in the series.
5/2/2011 4:25:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger will not play in Game 2 against Boston on Monday, despite earlier reports to the contrary. CSN Philly
Insight: Pronger is reportedly dealing with a head cold, although speculation was that he was injured since he missed the last few minutes of Game 1's blowout. He doesn't seem to be 100 percent right now and may be dealing with a leg ailment in addition to the wrist injury that sidelined him at the start of the playoffs.
4/24/2011 2:52:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger is back in the Flyers' lineup for Game 6 against Buffalo on Sunday. Globe & Mail
Insight: Pronger probably won't see his usual minutes, since he hasn't played in about a month and a half. However, expect him to see minutes in key situations for the Flyers, who are in a must-win elimination game.
4/22/2011 4:21:00 PM
Description: Chris Pronger will not return to the Flyers' lineup for Game 5 against Buffalo on Friday. Philadelphia Inquirer
Insight: Pronger looked good taking shots during Friday's morning skate, leading many to believe that he would suit up. Don't be surprised to see Pronger make his return for Game 6, provided that he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
4/17/2011 11:03:00 AM
Description: According to a source close to the Flyers, Chris Pronger will not play in Game 3 against Buffalo on Monday. Philadelphia Inquirer
Insight: The Flyers could sure use Pronger right now, as shown by the three goals allowed in the first period of Game 2. Playoff poolies who drafted the tall defenseman will have to continue to wait for his return.
