Henrik Sedin's ironman streak to end

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Injured Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin will miss a game for the first time since the 2003-04 season, the team said Monday.

Sedin's streak of 679 consecutive games played -- the sixth-longest in NHL history -- will end when the Canucks play in Edmonton on Tuesday night.

Bruised ribs are the reason the 33-year-old will not see action for the first time since Mar. 19, 2004.

Sedin and identical twin brother Daniel both signed four-year contracts with Vancouver in November.

Henrik kept his streak alive with a 22-second appearance in Vancouver's final game last season after the Canucks had already wrapped up their division.

Only Doug Jarvis (964), Garry Unger (914), Steve Larmer (884), Craig Ramsay (776) and Jay Bouwmeester (683) have lasted longer.
