NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, March 8th (All times Eastern)

Ottawa Senators (27-25-11) at Winnipeg Jets (30-27-7), 3 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Ottawa Senators hope to keep their winning streak in Winnipeg alive as they visit the Jets on Saturday to conclude a four-game road trip.

The Senators have won all three of their trips to Winnipeg since the Jets franchise relocated there from Atlanta. They have scored 16 goals in those three games.

Ottawa has won two straight and six of the last eight encounters overall, including a 4-3 victory at home on Jan. 2 in the first of two meetings this season. Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist, while Craig Anderson posted 32 stops for the Sens.

Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and an assist for the Jets, who also got tallies from Evander Kane and Olli Jokinen as well as 25 saves by backup goaltender Al Montoya.

Ottawa finishes off a tour of Western Canada today, a swing it began with a victory in Vancouver before consecutive defeats to Edmonton and Calgary. The Senators were bested 4-1 by the Flames last time out on Wednesday.

Anderson allowed all four goals on 28 shots, while Kyle Turris helped the Senators avoid a shutout by scoring with 9:36 to play.

Forward Ales Hemsky made his Ottawa debut after getting acquired from the Oilers the previous day for a pair of draft picks. He had two shots in 16 minutes of action.

"I expected I would be moved. They talked about it in the summer," said Hemsky, who played his first 11 seasons for the Oilers. "So I prepared for that. I knew it would happen, I just didn't know where."

Hemsky went from a last-place club to an Ottawa squad that is five points back of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Jets also are in the hunt for the postseason, but are coming off a 3-1 setback to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Winnipeg has now dropped the first two contests of a three-game homestand, having been bested in overtime by the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Ondrej Pavelec kept the Jets in it for much of the way versus the Kings with a 38-save effort, but Winnipeg mustered only Olli Jokinen's 15th goal of the season, which came in the second period.

"They're tight defensively, so simplifying is the way to go against them," Jets captain Andrew Ladd said of the Kings. "You've got to try to throw everything at them and create off of that. We probably didn't do enough of that."

Winnipeg fell three points behind Dallas for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Pavelec may get the start today and is 4-8-0 with a 3.20 goals against average lifetime versus the Senators.

Anderson is 10-2-2 with a 2.47 GAA in his career when facing the Jets franchise.
