NHL Game Summary - Winnipeg at Calgary

(Friday, April 11th)

Final Score: Winnipeg 5, Calgary 3

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Paul Postma potted his first goal of the season 9:16 into the third to break a tie and help the Winnipeg Jets wrap up their season with a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Evander Kane, Blake Wheeler, Carl Klingberg and Michael Frolik each scored once for the Jets, who saw Michael Hutchinson stop 35 shots in the team's second consecutive victory to close out the season.

"The goaltender had a lot to do with it," Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice said of Hutchinson's play helping the team pick up the win. "We found a way to grind something out and part of it was the goalie."

Winnipeg, which finished with 82 points, missed the postseason for the seventh straight season.

Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist, while Kris Russell and Sean Monahan notched a marker apiece for the Flames, who had a four-game win streak halted. Karri Ramo recorded 22 saves in defeat.

Winnipeg led 2-0 after 20 minutes and 3-1 midway through the second before Monahan and Russell scored power-play goals 24 seconds apart to tie the game.

Monahan buried a shot from the low right side with Calgary on a 5-on-3 at 11:46 before Russell beat Hutchinson high to the glove side from the left circle to make it 3-3 at 12:10.

With the tilt still tied just over nine minutes into the third, Postma ripped a slapper from just above the right circle that sailed through a bevy of bodies in front before finding the back of the net for a 4-3 lead at 9:16.

Wheeler added an empty-netter at 19:03 to account for the final margin.

"After those two power-play goals it seemed like the momentum shifted and we had a great third period," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said. "The boys were on a mission. They wanted that win for the fans but unfortunately we couldn't get it done."

Early on, Frolik opened the scoring with his 15th of the season at 7:23 before Kane lit the lamp from the left circle at 16:10 to make it 2-0.

Hudler's tip-in tally 1:04 into the second sliced the margin in half, but Klingberg buried a wraparound for his first NHL goal at 8:48 to restore Winnipeg's two-goal spread.

Olli Jokinen and Mark Stuart were sent off 29 seconds apart just past the midpoint of the second to give the Flames a two-man advantage.
