NHL Game Summary - Columbus at St. Louis

(Saturday, January 4th)

Final Score: St. Louis 6, Columbus 2

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrik Berglund scored two goals and the St. Louis Blues handled the Columbus Blue Jackets, 6-2, on Saturday.

Vladimir Sobotka, Maxim Lapierre, Jaden Schwartz and Alex Pietrangelo each had a goal for the Blues, who improved to 17-3-2 at home this season.

Brian Elliott stopped 22-of-24 shots for St. Louis, which has won five in a row.

Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu scored for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 1-2-0 on a four-game road trip. Curtis McElhinney turned aside 31-of-37 shots.

"There's no excuses for what happened tonight," said Letestu. "The defense did good, we just didn't come back and give them any help tonight."

Down 2-0, the Blues scored three goals in the second period. At the 7:03 mark, Barret Jackman's shot from the right point was deflected in by Berglund.

Sobotka put home his own rebound at 15:55 to make it a 2-2 contest. Less than two minutes later, Lapierre scored on a shot from the top of the right circle.

Berglund's redirection of Vladimir Tarasenko's centering feed from the right boards 14 seconds into the third period gave the Blues a 4-2 lead.

"I think it shows a lot of character that we have on this team," said Lapierre. "The game is never over and it's really important because these things happen in the playoffs and you have to get used to it."

David Backes, who returned to the lineup after missing three games with an upper-body injury, assisted on Schwartz's goal at 8:47.

Pietrangelo lit the lamp at the 14:13 mark to make it a 6-2 contest.

Anisimov's shot from the high slot at the 3:58 mark of the first stanza made it 1-0 Columbus.

Letestu made it 2-0 at 11:22 after his shot from along the left boards deflected off defenseman Ian Cole's skate and past Elliott.

Game Notes

Blue Jackets forward Derek MacKenzie served the first of a three-game suspension ... St. Louis defenseman Jordan Leopold played for the first time since Nov. 7.
